Markstrom will start against the Hurricanes on Friday.

The Devils have won five of their last six (5-1-0) and will roll with Markstrom between the pipes on Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 34-year-old Markstrom has been tremendous lately, allowing only three combined goals in his last five games (5-0-0), posting an outstanding .960 SV%. He is riding a two-game shutout streak and has a 2.12 GAA and .912 SV% in 26 games this season (18-6-2). Allen has been sidelined with an injury for most of December but will return to the crease on Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 34-year-old Allen has showcased mixed results this season, posting a 2.74 GAA and .900 SV% in 10 games (5-4-1). The Devils are riding a three-game winning streak and enter Thursday's contest as significant -216 road favorites against a Blue Jackets squad desperate for a win amid a five-game losing skid.

Dowling is expected to be recalled from Utica (AHL) and draw into New Jersey's lineup on Thursday in Columbus.

Dowling was placed on waivers to accommodate the return of Curtis Lazar (knee) but with Lazar returning to the sidelines, Dowling will like return to the lineup for the Devils. The 34-year-old Dowling played 21 games this season, scoring three points (2G / 1A) and averaging 8:30 time-on-ice.
