Ilya Sorokin is in the starter's crease at Monday's morning skate.

Sorokin is likely to return to the crease after watching Semyon Varlamov record a 34-save shutout in a 2-0 victory for his New York Islanders on Saturday. It was the second time in seven games that Sorokin was given the night off early this season. Sorokin's early season 2.80 GAA and .915 SV% are slightly below his career average of 2.35 GAA and .923 SV%. Even as -149 home favourites on Monday, Sorokin and the Islanders will have their work cut out for them against the high-scoring Detroit Red Wings, who rank third in the league offensively (4.00 GF/GP).

Scott Perunovich will draw into the Blues' lineup for the first time this season on Thursday vs. Calgary.

St. Louis has decided to go with the unconventional 11 forwards, seven defensemen approach which had led to Scott Perunovich getting his first appearance of the season in the Blues' lineup. The 25-year-old last appeared in the NHL as a rookie in 2021-22 and had six assists, 14 SOG, eight PIMs and a +2 plus/minus in 19 games. He takes the place of Tyler Tucker in the Blues' lineup Thursday.

Ilya Sorokin will start Thursday vs. Ottawa.

Sorokin will start on Thursday after being the first goalie off the ice and will look to rebound after consecutive losses (0-1-1), both sub-.900 SV% performances. Despite making several heroic saves early in the contest, Sorokin allowed five goals on 37 shots in the Islanders' 7-4 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. The Islanders are -118 road favorites as they welcome an Ottawa Senators team that has lost two straight, being outscored 11-6 in those games.

Sorokin will return to the crease for the Islanders after getting his first night off on Saturday. In three games this season (2-0-1), Sorokin has a 2.31 GAA and .914 SV% but is coming off his weakest performance thus far, allowing five goals on 39 shots in a 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Mayfield (leg) will not return to the Islanders lineup for Friday's game against the Devils.

Mayfield was forced to leave the Islanders' opening game vs Buffalo after blocking a shot and missed Tuesday's game against the Coyotes as a result. The 31-year-old defensemen is coming off a career season in 2022-23 which saw him collect career highs in goals (6), assists (18), and SOG (119). He was listed as a game-time decision for tonight's game against the Islanders, which suggests he should be nearing a return.

Scott Mayfield will be out vs. Arizona due to a leg injury.

Mayfield was forced to leave the Islanders' opening game vs Buffalo after just 16:47 TOI after taking a shot to the leg and is considered day-to-day and will miss Tuesday's matchup vs. Arizona. The 31-year-old defensemen is coming off a career season in 2022-23 which saw him collect highs in goals (6), assists (18), SOG (119), and PIMs (83) and will be hoping to be back sooner rather than later.

Samuel Bolduc is expected to make his season debut Tuesday vs. Arizona.

Bolduc is expected to draw into the lineup and make his season debut on Tuesday night. The #57 overall pick of the Islanders in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft recorded three points (2G / 1A) in 17 games last season. He is expected to line up next to Sebastian Aho on the Islanders' third defensive pair.

Ilya Sorokin will start Tuesday vs. the New York Islanders.

Last year's Vezina runner-up will look to continue his strong start in game two of the season for the Islanders. In his first contest, Sorokin was his usual self, stopping 26 of 28 shots and leading the Islanders to a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. The Islanders' familiar defensive structure should be on display once again this season, paving the way for the talented Sorokin to have another Vezina-worthy campaign. The Islanders are listed as -194 home favourites as they face off against an Arizona Coyotes team that is coming off a 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers last night.
