Kakko (lower body) appeared in full at practice in a non-contact jersey Monday.

Kakko has not played since November 27th, missing 18 games with a lower-body injury. There is still no timeline for his return to action, but he did participate in practice in a non-contact jersey. Before his injury, Kakko was having a difficult time establishing himself offensively, scoring only three points (1G / 2A) in 20 games.

Shesterkin was the first goalie off the ice at the Rangers' morning skate.

Shesterkin had the night off on Saturday, a 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens, but will likely return to the crease on Monday night against the high-flying Vancouver Canucks. Shesterkin has been inconsistent this season, highlighted by a recent stretch where he has impressively allowed two or fewer goals in five of his last eight games (6-2-0) but allowed six in two, settling for a .907 SV%. The Rangers are 6-3-1 in their last 10 and are -148 home favourites against a Canucks squad that has scored six or more goals in three of their last five games (3-2-0).

Shesterkin will start Thursday vs. Chicago.

Shesterkin will start for the Rangers on Thursday and look to rebound after a terrible performance in his last outing. On Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes, Shesterkin allowed six goals on 27 shots (.778 SV%) in a 6-1 loss, his first loss in six games (5-1-0). Before that, Shesterkin allowed two goals or less in four of his last five games (5-0-0), posting a tremendous .946 SV%. The Rangers have an extremely favourable matchup on Thursday as -430 home favourites against a Chicago Blackhawks team that has lost three straight.

Othmann is expected to make his NHL debut Thursday vs. Chicago.

Othmann is expected to skate on a line with Nick Bonino and Jonny Brodzinski in his NHL debut on Thursday. The 20-year-old Othmann was the 16th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and has 23 points (9G / 14A) in 28 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL this season.

Brennan Othmann has been recalled from Hartford (AHL).

With the news of Tyler Pitlick (lower body) being out week-to-week, Brennan Othmann has been recalled from Hartford (AHL) for the first time in his career. The 20-year-old left-winger is the Rangers' 2021 first-round pick (16th overall) and had nine goals and 23 points in 28 games with Hartford prior to his promotion.

Shesterkin will start against the Hurricanes on Tuesday.

Shesterkin has been terrific over the last several weeks and will start for the second consecutive game on Tuesday. Shesterkin has won five straight games, allowing two or fewer in four, posting a remarkable .946 SV%, a sign that he is back to his Vezina-caliber form after an inconsistent first portion of the season, posting a .902 SV% in his first 17 games (10-7-0). The Rangers are slight -113 home favourites against a Carolina Hurricanes team that has won three straight, outscoring their opposition 13-7.

Jonathan Quick will start Friday in Florida.

Quick will start for only the second time in the last six games for the Rangers when they visit the Florida Panthers on Friday. Quick has been solid and reliable all season but is coming off a tough performance in which he allowed four goals on 28 shots (.857 SV%) in a 4-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on December 22nd. That said, the Rangers, winners of two straight, are +121 road underdogs against a Panthers team that has also won two in a row.

Trouba (upper-body) will not return to Wednesday's game against the Capitals.

Trouba suffered the injury after he appeared to take an inadvertent elbow to head from Tom Wilson as the former drove toward the Rangers' net. We should expect to receive an update on Trouba's injury and a possible timeline to his return in the coming days. The Rangers' captain has two goals and eleven assists in 32 games this season.

Igor Shesterkin will start Wednesday vs. Washington.

Shesterkin is riding a three-game winning streak and will return to the crease on Wednesday against the Washington Capitals. Shesterkin has not been true-to-form this season but is amid one of his better stretches of play, allowing only six goals on the last 85 shots he has faced (.929 SV%) over his last three games (3-0-0). The Rangers are sizeable -204 home favourites on Wednesday against the Capitals, despite being shut out 4-0 against them earlier this month.

Quick led the Rangers onto the ice for warmups.

Quick has turned back time this season, grossly outplayed Igor Shesterkin, and will likely start for the Rangers on the front end of a back-to-back on Friday. The 37-year-old Quick has been nearly unbeatable this season, winning his last seven starts while posting a serviceable .916 SV%. Quick's 2.09 GAA and .926 SV% surpass anything he has ended the season with throughout his illustrious career. The Rangers will look for their fourth straight win as -116 home favourites against an Oilers team that snapped a three-game skid last night, courtesy of a 6-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils.
