The Rangers have assigned Alexandar Georgiev to Hartford (AHL).

Georgiev will start Sunday in Columbus.

Georgiev stopped 24 of 25 shots in the Rangers win over the Islanders on Saturday afternoon. Georgiev will start for the second straight day as Henrik Lundqvist gets a “mental break.” Despite stout outing yesterday, Georgiev has gone 3-6-0 with a 3.76 GAA and .890 SV% on the road this season.

Tonight he takes on an Avalanche team that has cooled off recently, losing six in a row and 10 of their last 12 (2-7-3).

Georgiev will start against the Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Georgiev stopped 14 of 15 shots in the Rangers win over the Ducks on Tuesday. It was easy night for Georgiev, who will have a much more difficult matchup tonight against the Maple Leafs. Georgiev has gone 2-3-0 with a 4.28 GAA and .877 SV% on the road this season and should be left on the waiver wire tonight.

Georgiev will make his first start since December 1st. Thornton will be a game-time decision on Thursday.

Thornton missed Wednesday’s practice and is questionable to play Thursday vs. the Stars. The Sharks are being vague on Thornton’s injury but the fact he is a game-time decision suggests that it is minor. Thornton has just 12 points (4G / 8A) in 23 games this season.

The Wild have recalled Luke Kunin from Iowa (AHL).

Kunin has spent the last two-plus months in Iowa working his way back from knee surgery and an injury to Mikko Koivu has finally opened the door for an NHL return. The 2016 No.15 overall pick has registered 15 points (8G / 7A) in 21 games with Iowa this season.

The Rangers have sent Alexandar Georgiev to Hartford (AHL).

The Rangers don’t play until Saturday so they will use this break to get Georgiev some playing time because Henrik Lundqvist will almost certainly start their only game of the week. Georgiev has gone 2-1-0 with a 3.01 GAA and .902 SV% in the AHL this season.

Alexandar Georgiev
Georgiev will start Saturday in Montreal.

Georgiev surrendered four goals on 27 shots in the Rangers loss to the Capitals last Saturday. Georgiev was 3-2-1 with a 2.47 GAA, .915 SV% and one shutout in five appearances in November. It’s hard to tell exactly what you’re going to get from the 22-year-old from start-to-start, so it’s hard to trust him tonight in Montreal. The Habs are averaging 3.00 goals per game (t-16th) this season.

White missed Friday’s game in Dallas with an undisclosed injury but will return to the Senators lineup on Monday. White has enjoyed a quality season, picking up seven goals and six assists (13 points) in 22 games. White will skate on the second line with Brady Tkachuk and Mark Stone.
