Leason has spent most of the season with the Capitals, scoring three goals with three assists (six points) in 33 games. He was recalled on Wednesday to join the team on their way to Montreal, replacing Alex Ovechkin, who was ineligible to travel to Canada due to COVID-19.

After recently testing positive for COVID-19, Ovechkin was not eligible to travel to Canada for Thursday's game against the Canadiens. Brett Leason was recalled from Hershey (AHL) and will likely take Ovechkin's spot in the lineup.
