Wilson, 20, missed the start of the season after undergoing offseason ankle surgery. Wilson had 10 points (3G / 7A) in 82 games with the Capitals last season and failed to record a point in two games while he was getting back up to speed in Hershey.
Wilson is nearly ready to return after having offseason ankle surgery. He will head to the Hershey Bears where he should practice throughout the week and likely play this weekend. He should be back with the Capitals really soon after playing 82 games with them in his rookie season.
van Riemsdyk, 23, is the brother of Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk. Trevor will make his debut tonight with Niklas Hjalmarsson as his D partner. He spent the last three years at the University of New Hampshire and posted four goals and 19 assists (23 points) in 26 games last season.
Oshie had been probable to play all day and it looks as if he'll finally return for Game 2.
Oshie missed the final two games of the regular season with a head injury that he suffered on a hit by Mike Rupp last Thursday. He skated in the Blues' morning skate, but will be held out of game 1. He is expected to return at some point in the first round.
Oshie skated again on Tuesday and said he is feeling better. Blues' head coach Ken Hitchcock said that all of his injured players will be back at some point in round 1, but Oshie might not be ready for game 1. "You've got to see how I am tonight, how I am tomorrow morning," said Oshie. "It really is a day to day thing. If I can, if medically it's OK and I'm not going to hurt myself worse, or hurt my team, I'll be in."
This is no surprise after Oshie had to be helped off of the ice yesterday. There is no word on how Oshie is doing, the Blues could be keeping him out for precautionary reasons with the playoffs next week.
Oshie was elbowed in the head by Wild tough-guy Mike Rupp. Oshie went down and took awhile to get to his feet. Rupp was assessed a match-penalty and will have a phone hearing Friday. The Blues are already without David Backes, so losing Oshie right before the playoffs would put a huge dent in their lineup. Consider him day-to-day until we get a more detailed report of his injury.
After being injured on Tuesday in a big collision with Drew Doughty, Backstrom will miss no time and play on Saturday. Backstrom has two goals and 12 assists (14 points) in his last 14 games. His 57 assists ranks third in the NHL and his 70 points is good for 12th.
After leaving Tuesday's game with an upper-body injury, Backstrom did not practice on Wednesday, but has rejoined his teammates this morning. The Capitals are back in action on Saturday, so barring a setback it looks like Backstrom should be good-to-go. Monitor his status as Saturday's clash with the Bruins approaches.
Backstrom was upended by Kings defenseman Drew Doughty in the second period. He headed down the tunnel after the hit and did not return. Coach Adam Oates said Backstrom was not undergoing concussion protocol testing and reiterated that the 26-year-old suffered an upper-body injury. A serious injury to Backstrom would devastate the Capitals who continue to push for the playoffs.
Oshie missed Monday's game to be with his wife for the birth of their first child, but he will be back tomorrow to take on the Blackhawks. Oshie will skate on the second line with Dmitrij Jaskin and Vladimir Sobotka.
Oshie will only miss tonight's game and be back in the lineup on Wednesday.
Oshie might not play on Monday because he and his wife are expecting the birth of their first baby. Monitor Oshie's status throughout the day.
This is the first time that Ovechkin has skated since getting injured. The injury is believed to be minor so his participation in practice this morning is a positive sign that he will be back in tonight. We will get official word when it is made available.
Ovechkin will miss his second straight game tonight. The Capitals are having a hard time scoring goals in 2014 and missing the NHL's leading scorer will certainly hurt their lineup.
The Capitals do not play until Friday but his absence at practice today is not a good sign for Ovi. Monitor his status during Firday's morning skate, if he is available for the skate there is a good chance that he will be in the lineup tomorrow.
Ovechkin was listed as a game-time decision, but he will miss his third game of the season tonight vs. Ottawa. Troy Brouwer will move up to the top-line with Ovi out. Monitor his status prior to Friday's game in New Jersey.
There is no word when Ovechkin suffered the lower-body injury but he will be a gametime decision tonight. The Capitals have lost five straight so missing Ovechkin vs. the surging Senators would be troubling. Monitor Ovi's status leading up to puck-drop.
Thankfully for the Blues, Oshie did not miss a game after a collision with Taylor Hall on Tuesday hurt his knee. Oshie will skate in his usual spot on the top-line with David Backes and Jaden Schwartz.
