It looks like Ottawa was able to sneak in another move right before the first PWHL Trade Deadline.

Ottawa acquired forward Shiann Darkangelo from Boston. Going the other way was Lexie Adzija and Caitrirn Lonergan.

Ian Kennedy of The Hockey News first reported the trade, which DFO later confirmed.

Darkangelo has been a depth player on Boston, utilizing her experience on a team filled with young talent like Alina Müller and Loren Gabel. In 17 games, the Brighton, Michigan native notched just one assist, that coming in Boston’s overtime win over Minnesota on Jan. 27.

Adzija has been a sparkplug for Ottawa this season, using her grit and talent to climb up the lineup, receiving time on the top line and power play under head coach Carla MacLeod. The St. Thomas, Ontario native was third on the team in goals (5), having registered eight points in 15 games. She last found the back of the net on Feb. 28 against New York.

Lonergan has not signed a Standard Player Agreement this season, as she has focused on her career off the ice this season. The former Clarkson University product was a two-time Patty Kazmaier finalist, and spent her first season after college with the Connecticut Whale of the Premier Hockey Federation, posting 18 points during the 2022-23 regular season, registering two assists in three playoff games.

Both Adzija and Darkangelo are on one-year contracts, while Lonergan is not currently signed to a Standard Player Agreement.

Boston and Ottawa will meet one more time this season, that coming on April 24 in Canada’s capital.

What is strange about this deal is that the two teams had just faced off, playing in front of an American attendance record in Detroit this past Saturday, as Boston beat Ottawa, 2-1, in a shootout.

Another weird factoid involving the two teams is that they are both fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot in the league. After Saturday’s result, Boston (4-4-2-7) sits fourth, one point ahead of Ottawa (5-0-6-6).

Ottawa also received Tereza Vanisova from Montreal for Amanda Bouiler earlier on Monday.
