Alex Goligoski has retired after 17 NHL seasons.

After 17 successful seasons, Alex Goligoski called it a career on Thursday. The 39-year-old represented four different organizations (DAL, ARI, PIT, MIN) and had 87 goals and 475 points in 1078 career games played. HIs final NHL season came with Minnesota in 2023-24, where he had 10 points, 18 PIMs and 32 SOG in 36 games played.

Goligoski continues his playing carousel after being a healthy scratch last game but will be back in the Wild's lineup Friday vs. Florida as he replaces Daemon Hunt. The 38-year-old is in his 17th NHL season and has yet to find the back of the net in 2023-24 but has seven assists, 14 PIMs, and a -4 plus/minus in 24 games played this season.

Goligoski has missed the Wilds' previous 15 games due to a lower-body injury but has been activated from the long-term injured reserve Friday and is expected to play vs. Colorado. The 38-year-old veteran defensemen struggled in his early two game showing prior to his injury, as he failed to pick up a point while getting four PIMs, one SOG and a -3 plus/minus.

Goligoski left the Wilds' game against Toronto after 16:04 TOI due to a lower-body injury and is expected out 6-10 weeks after being placed on the long-term injured reserve Wednesday. The 38-year-old veteran is in his 17th NHL season and had yet to pick up a point but had one SOG, four PIMs and was a -3 plus/minus through two games so far in 2023-24. Sammy Walker was recalled to Minnesota as a roster replacement for Goligoski.

Goligoski suffered a lower-body injury after playing 16:04 in Minnesota's 7-4 Saturday night loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his two games this season, Goligoski has zero points, four penalty minutes, two hits, and a -3 plus/minus rating. Dakota Mermis will likely replace Goligoski on defence.
