Martinsen drew into the lineup for the Winter Classic but played just 4:14 TOI. John Hayden will replace Martinsen on Thursday.
Martinsen played just 4:13 TOI on Wednesday and will be replaced by Luke Johnson on Friday.
Martinsen, who has picked up 12 goals and 14 assists (26 points) in 61 games with Rockford this season, could make his Blackhawks debut tonight. Matthew Highmore was hurt over the weekend and is presumably out tonight following Martinsen’s call-up.
Martinsen, 27, has seven points (3G / 4A) in 55 games with Colorado and was held pointless in nine games after being acquired by Montreal at the deadline. Martinsen has just 18 points (7G / 11A) in 119 career NHL games, so he’ll be plugged in on the fourth line in 2017-18.
Martinsen has just three goals and four assists (seven points) in 55 games with the Avalanche this season. The Canadiens continue to try and make themselves a bigger team and Martinsen comes in at 6-foot-3 and 220 lbs.
Martinsen was in the lineup for the last two games, but will be a healthy scratch for the fourth time in the last six games. Martinsen will be replaced by John Mitchell.
