Sustr had three goals, 11 assists, 41 PIMs and a +8 plus/minus through 51 games with both the Iowa Wild (AHL) and San Diego Gulls (AHL) in 2022-23 and has been traded to San Jose for Andrew Agozzino. The 32-year-old defenseman last played in the NHL in 2021-22, picking up five assists in 23 games with Anaheim.

Sustr should serve as the extra defenseman with Jonas Brodin being announced injured Thursday. The 32-year-old had five assists and a +6 plus/minus through 15 games with Iowa (AHL) this season. If he does crack the lineup for the Wild he will build off his 69 points (11G/58A) and 333 SOG through 361 career NHL games played.

Sustr signed with the Ducks in 2018, appearing in five games with the Ducks and 39 games with San Diego (AHL). He left for the KHL for a couple of seasons before returning to North America with the Lightning this year. He had one goal in 15 games with Tampa Bay before being waived on Monday.

Sustr may have been in line for some game action on Tuesday with Mikhail Sergachev added to the protocol list on Sunday but now his addition means Darren Raddysh will likely make his NHL debut.

Sustr has been in the KHL for the last two seasons but returned to North America and Tampa this offseason. Sustr has 63 points (10G / 53A) in 323 career NHL games and is expected to replace Zach Bogosian (undisclosed) in the lineup on Thursday.

Sustr has split his campaign between the AHL and NHL, failing to pick up a point in five games with the Ducks. During his time in San Diego, the 6-foot-7 defenseman has just two helpers in 16 games.

Sustr has not registered a point while picking up six penalty minutes in five games with the Ducks this season. He replaces Josh Mahura on the roster.

Sustr appeared in one game during his call-up but was a healthy scratch for the last two games. Sustr returns to the AHL, where he has one assist in seven games.

Sustr had just one assist in seven games during his demotion to San Diego. He comes back up to Anaheim, where he failed to record a point but had six PIMS in four games earlier this season.

Sustr registered three goals and 11 assists (14 points) while averaging 17:35 TOI/GM in 80 games this season. The towering defenseman is a solid third-pairing defenseman who isn’t asked to do too much and will be around in Tampa Bay for at least another season.

Sustr will miss his second straight game with an undisclosed injury, which means that the Lighting will go with six defensemen, which is normal for most teams, but the Lightning tend to roll with seven defenseman more often than not. Sustr is day-to-day.

Sustr missed the last six games of the regular season, but will be available for game 1 versus Detroit. Sustr, who is a giant at 6-foot-8, will be paired with Victor Hedman, who stands in at 6-foot-6. The two towers will likely play a ton of minutes against Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. Sustr had no goals, but 13 assists in 72 games with the Lightning this season.
