The Avalanche have acquired Brendan Ranford from the Coyotes for Joe Whitney.
Ranford, 24, had six goals and 11 assists (17 points) in 46 games with the Texas Stars and Tucson Roadrunners (AHL) this season. He will report to San Antonio.

The Coyotes have acquired Brendan Ranford and Branden Troock from the Stars for Justin Peters and Justin Hache.
Ranford, 24, was a seventh round pick of the Flyers in 2010 and has appeared in just one career NHL game. Ranford has collected 17 points (6G / 11A) in 36 games with Texas (AHL) and will report to Tucson.

Ranford, 22, has 13 goals and 23 assists (36 points) in 50 games with Texas (AHL) this season. He has been recalled as insurance for Alex Hemsky, who is battling a lower-body injury.
