Bertschy, 23, was a sixth round pick in 2012 and has picked up 17 points (8G / 9A) in 45 games with Iowa (AHL) this season. He has one assist in nine career NHL games and this trade was made for the Wild to get rid of one contract.
Bertschy, 22, has appeared in three games with the Wild this season, picking up a single assist. During his time in Iowa, he has one goal and two assists. It remains to be seen if Bertschy will draw into the lineup in Pittsburgh on Thursday.
Bertschy had one assist in his NHL season debut on Saturday and was sent down for the weekend for salary cap purposes, only to be recalled for Tuesday’s game vs. Buffalo. The 22-year-old has one goal and two assists in seven games with Iowa.
It looked as if Bertschy was going to crack the Wild’s opening night roster, but they were able to get Teemu Pulkkinen off of waivers this afternoon and had to send a forward back to Iowa. Bertschy had 35 points (11G / 24A) in 35 AHL games last season.
Bertschy, 21, was a sixth round pick (158th overall) in 2012. The Swiss winger is tied for the team lead with six points (2G / 4A) in 12 games with Iowa. Bertschy is expected to make his NHL debut with Zach Parise out with a lower-body injury.
