Schneider will be making his first NHL appearance since December 14th and comes in having gone 0-5-1 with a 4.66 GAA and .852 SV% in nine appearances this season. During his time with the Binghamton Devils (AHL), Schneider wasn’t much better, posting a 3.24 GAA and .881 SV% across eight games. He has simply lost the form that once made him one of the best goalies in the league and can’t be trusted until he finds it (if ever).
Schneider has had a terrible season and it just got worse. Schneider has been moved to IR with an abdominal strain and MacKenzie Blackwood was recalled from Binghamton (AHL).
Schneider allowed five goals on 37 shots in the Devils loss in Anaheim on Sunday. 2018-19 has been a total disaster for Schneider, who has gone 0-5-1 with a 4.29 GAA and .862 SV% in six starts and two relief appearances. Tonight he will make his first start on home-ice and is still searching for his first win of the season. He’ll have a tough time against a Vegas squad that has won nine of their last 11 (9-2-0).

Schneider allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Devils loss in Detroit last Thursday. It was an inauspicious return to the crease for Schneider, who will make his second start of the season tonight. Schneider faces a Senators team with a little skill but even more internal issues. Still, the Sens have been able to score 3.21 (12th) goals per game through 14 games this season.
Schneider missed the first eight games of the season but stopped five of six shots in relief of Keith Kinkaid on Tuesday. The 32-year-old was once viewed as one of the best goalies in the NHL, but has struggled to a pedestrian 2.86 GAA and .908 SV% in 100 games over the last two seasons. A return against the Red Wings is the perfect scenario for Schneider.
Schneider made three appearances during his conditioning stint, going 1-1-0 with a 2.67 GAA and .897 SV%. Schneider is set to make his season debut this week after a long recovery from hip surgery. Keith Kinkaid has played very well while Schneider was out, so the Devils will likely ease him back into action by splitting starts between the two netminders. The 32-year-old Schneider was 17-16-6 with a 2.93 GAA and .907 SV% last year—one of the worst seasons of his professional career.
Schneider continues to work his way back from offseason hip surgery and will head to the AHL to get up to speed. Keith Kinkaid will continue to start for the Devils until Schneider is ready to return to the NHL.
Schneider was basically practicing without a timetable for his return from offseason hip surgery, but the Devils gave him the “day-to-day” tag on Thursday. New Jersey certainly won’t rush Schneider back the way Keith Kinkaid is playing right now, so expect him to be sidelined for a little longer.
Schneider will not be between the pipes when the Devils opening their season against the Oilers on October 6th. The 32-year-old is coming off of hip surgery on May 1st. Look for Keith Kinkaid to get the nod in the season-opener.
Schneider continues to workout on-ice nearly every day as he works his from May hip surgery. The Devils are easing their workhorse netminder back into action but there is no firm timetable for when he can start a game. If Schneider is out to start the season, they will turn to Keith Kinkaid until he is ready.
