Danny Cleary News
The Red Wings have placed Danny Cleary on waivers.

It was a bit surprising when the Red Wings re-signed Cleary this offseason considering they have so many young forwards who were on the brink of cracking the NHL roster. So, it is no surprise to see him get waived. Don’t be surprised if he buddy Mike Babcock and the Maple Leafs claim him.

Cleary will play Monday for the first time since January 27th.

Cleary's status for tonight's game hinged on Teemu Pulkkinen's status, but Pulkkinen will play and Joakim Andersson will sit with the flu. Cleary has averaged just 9:08 TOI and posting one goal and one assist in 12 games.

The Red Wings have signed Daniel Cleary to a one-year contract.

Cleary, 35, had just eight points (4G / 4A) with a minus-11 rating in 52 games with the Red Wings last season. Cleary has scored 20-plus goals on three occasions, but has registered just 23 points in 100 games over the last two seasons. He holds no fantasy value at this point, but provides the Red Wings with depth and experience.

When the Philadelphia Flyers get their Chris Pronger LTIR cap relief at the end of the month, forward Dan Cleary will join the team.

Helene St. James reports it’s a cap hit of $2.75 million per season. The 34-year-old had nine goals and six assists in 48 games last season. He also added 10 points in 14 playoff games.

Forward Danny Cleary -- who's been a key player for the Detroit Red Wings in playoffs past -- will miss the regular-season finale Saturday but should be ready for Round 1.

Cleary is one of the many players who will take a maintenance day at the end of the regular season. He finishes his year with 12 goals and 33 points in 75 games.

Optional skate for Wings. Zetterberg (lower body injury) and Cleary (knee) are skating but not playing tonight.

Both players have been ruled out for tonight's game but their participation suggests they won't be out too much longer. The third line winger scored 11 goals and 27 points through 55 games.
