Stafford was a healthy scratch in St. Louis on Tuesday but will replace Kurtis Gabriel on the Devils fourth line on Thursday. Stafford has two goals and six assists (eight points) in 31 games this season.

Stafford was hurt in his second game of the season and his move to IR means he will miss at least Thursday’s game. John Quenneville was recalled in a corresponding move.
Stafford was in training camp on a PTO and signed Friday morning after it was announced that Jesper Bratt would miss 2-3 weeks with a fractured jaw. Stafford is not expected to suit up in the Devils season opener on Saturday.
Stafford has gone pointless in his last 16 games and has just eight points (5G / 3A) in 30 games this season. With Jesper Bratt (lower-body) coming back into the lineup tonight, Stafford will serve as the scratch up front.
Stafford was on the ice for Friday’s morning skate, but skated as an extra and will not play vs. the Capitals tonight. However, head coach John Hynes said that Stafford is a possibility to play on Saturday.
Stafford played just 6:06 TOI in the Devils’ season opener and will not be available for today’s game in Buffalo. With Stafford sidelined, Jimmy Hayes will move up to play with Nico Hischier and Marcus Johansson.

Stafford has been out since October 25th, but is expected to draw back into the lineup on Wednesday. The veteran winger took part in Tuesday’s practice and Wednesday’s morning skate on a line with Nic Petan and Brandon Tanev. He has collected a single assist in six games this season.
