Gilbert Brule News
The Coyotes have recalled Gilbert Brule from Portland (AHL).

Brule was with the Portland Pirates on a professional tryout but signed a one-year, two-way deal on November 30. In 11 games with Portland he netted seven goals and added five assists. He has not played in the NHL since the 2011-12 season when he had 14 points in 33 games with Phoenix.

Brule has cleared waivers and the Coyotes have assigned him to Portland (AHL).

Brule has been with Portland on a professional tryout, but signed a two-way deal yesterday which required him to go through waivers. He went unclaimed and will remain with the Pirates where he has six goals and two assists in eight games.

The Coyotes have signed forward Gilbert Brule to a one-year, two-way contract.

Brule is a former first round pick (6th overall in 2005) who never materialized in the NHL. He was with the Coyotes in 2011-12 where he had five goals and 14 points in 33 games. He has appeared in eight games with the Coyotes AHL affiliate the Portland Pirates this season, where he has six goals and two assists.

He’s also been on the wing where he can use his shot, but the coaches like him better in the middle as a fourth-line possibility. It’s the one roster spot that is pretty fluid right now. Is it Brule?

Following a poor offensive showing last season, Brule will need to earn a job on a checking line in Edmonton. Don't expect him to reach his numbers of two seasons ago as he will have very limited offensive minutes if he makes the team.

He says he’s hale and hearty as he starts his third Oilers’ training camp, and he’s never felt healthier at 185 pounds.

After a lost season, Brule looks to regain the scoring touch that produced 17 goals in 65 games during the '09-'10 campaign. In deeper leagues he could be a sleeper should he light the lamp in the preseason/early regular season.
