McKegg has had a difficult time sticking in the NHL throughout his career, often times alternating between the AHL and NHL throughout the season. In 2022 he spent almost the entire season with the Rangers, scoring two goals with three assists (five points) in 43 games. Signing a two-way contract with the Oilers suggests he may be destined to start 2022-23 in Bakersfield.
Returning McKegg to the AHL is a good sign that Filip Chytil could be ready for Tuesday's game vs. the Canadiens.
McKegg was forced to leave Saturday's game in Montreal with a lower-body injury and will not play vs. Minnesota. Boo Nieves was recalled from Hartford (AHL) and will replace him on the fourth line.
McKegg has been a healthy scratch for the last three games but will replace Lias Andersson on Wednesday. An easy matchup vs. the Red Wings will allow the Rangers to play some players who haven't been playing lately. McKegg has no points in five games this season.
McKegg has scored six goals with 17 assists (23 points) in 31 games with Charlotte. The 26-year-old has 13 points (7G / 6A) in 91 career NHL games with the Maple Leafs, Panthers, Lightning and Penguins.
McKegg, 25, has split his season between the AHL and NHL this season. The former third-round draft pick (No.62 in 2010) has two goals and two assists in 26 NHL games and 12 points (5G / 7A) in 28 AHL contests. He is expected to report to Charlotte (AHL).
The Lightning traded Valtteri Filppula to the Flyers earlier, so McKegg, who was claimed off of waivers from the Panthers, will play tonight. McKegg had four points (2G / 2A) in seven AHL games and six points (3G / 3A) in 31 games with the Panthers before being waived.
McKegg, 24, has three goals and three assists (six points) in 31 games with the Panthers this season. He has also recorded four points (2G / 2A) in seven AHL games and will remain with the Lightning at the NHL-level.
McKegg was in the lineup for the last two games, but will be a healthy scratch for the fifth time in seven games tonight in St. Louis. McKegg will be replaced by Michael Sgarbossa.
