The Hurricanes have signed Haydn Fleury to a one-year extension worth $850K.

Fleury split the 2019 campaign between the AHL and NHL but is set to become a full-time NHLer in 2020. Fleury had just one assist in 20 NHL games a year ago but brings great size (6-foot-3, 208 lbs.) and excellent skating ability to the Hurricanes bottom-4.

The Hurricanes have recalled Haydn Fleury from Charlotte (AHL) under emergency conditions.

Fleury will re-enter the Hurricanes lineup on Tuesday with Calvin de Haan back in Carolina undergoing further evaluation on an upper-body injury that he suffered on Sunday. Fleury has one assist in 17 NHL games and 10 points (2G / 8A) in 28 AHL games this season.

Fleury is expected to draw into the Hurricanes lineup on Tuesday.

Fleury spent most of his time with the Hurricanes last year, picking up eight assists in 67 games. The former No.7 overall pick has posted strong offensive numbers at lower-levels but will be limited in Carolina because of their depth on the blueline.

Fleury was a healthy scratch for the last two games but he will replace Klas Dahlbeck in the second game of a back-to-back tonight vs. the Bruins. Fleury, who put up decent offensive numbers in the WHL and AHL certainly hasn’t done so at the NHL level yet. In his first 54 career games (all this season) the 21-year-old has just six assists.
