The Hurricanes have signed Jaccob Slavin to an eight-year contract extension worth $51.69 million ($6.46M AAV).

Carolina will keep one of its most important defensive pieces around long term as they have signed Jaccob Slavin to an eight-year contract extension worth $51.69 million ($6.46M AAV). The 30-year-old defenseman just completed his ninth season with Carolina (665 GP) and had six goals, 37 points and a +21 plus/minus in 81 games played in 2023-24.

Slavin will not dress for Carolina's final game of the season on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes play their final game of the season on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets and have opted to rest a variety of their lineup regulars. Slavin ends the 2023-24 campaign with 37 points (6G / 31A), 151 shots, and 121 blocks in 81 games.

Slavin missed the Hurricanes' previous game four games due to a lower-body injury and will not return to the lineup Tuesday vs. Los Angeles. The 28-year-old has three goals, 12 assists, 74 SOG, six PIMs and a +10 plus/minus through 45 games prior to the injury.

Slavin (lower-body) will be a game-time decision for Game 1 vs. the Predators.

Slavin missed the Hurricanes season finale with a lower-body injury he suffered in their second last game. Slavin was on the ice for Sunday's practice and Monday's morning skate, so there's a good chance he's available for Game 1. However, head coach Rod Brind'Amour would not commit to it.

Slavin was added to the COVID-19 protocol list on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes played in Nashville on Monday and had just one player n the COVID-19 protocol list and that was Jordan Staal. On Tuesday, their game with the Predators was cancelled due to four more players being added to that list, Slavin among them. The four players with confirmed positive tests must stay behind in Nashville and observe a 10-day isolation period in the team hotel.
