McGinn made his season debut on Tuesday but it was his first game in 10 months so he will rest Thursday vs. the Flames. Jayce Hawryluk will replace him on the Panthers’ fourth line.
This is seemingly more more of a salary-saving move by the Panthers than an actual need for a player like McGinn. The Panthers are eating 12.5% of Demers’ contract to send him to Arizona, but it frees up a spot on the blueline for either Ian McCoshen or MacKenzie Weegar. McGinn is coming off of a disappointing 17-point (9G / 8A) season in Arizona.
McGinn missed the first five games of the season, but he will make his debut tonight in New Jersey. McGinn, who had 22 goals and 17 assists (39 points) in 84 games last year, will skate on a line with Jordan Martinook and Anthony Duclair.

McGinn is eligible to come off of IR and play whenever he is healthy, but remains without a firm timetable for when that will be. He is not with the Coyotes on their road-trip, so they might not get him in the lineup until after they return home at the end of the month.
McGinn was questionable leading up to Saturday’s season opener, so it isn’t surprising to see him scratched tonight. McGinn remains day-to-day and is questionable to travel on the Coyotes’ upcoming road trip.
McGinn missed Friday’s practice, which makes him a question mark for the Coyotes’ season opener on Saturday. Monitor his status during the morning skate, but all signs are pointing towards him sitting this one out.
McGinn has been absent since last Friday’s preseason contest and remains questionable for the season opener. Thankfully for the Coyotes, they don’t open the season until Saturday, so it gives McGinn a few extra days to recover.
McGinn, 27, had a nice 2015-16 season with the Sabres and Ducks. He had 14 goals in 63 games before he was traded at the deadline, where he added an additional eight goals in 21 games in Anaheim. He finished the year with 39 points (22G / 17A) in 84 games. He’s a heavy dude at 6-foot-1, 205 lbs. and should file in on the Coyotes’ top-6 in 2016-17.
McGinn, 27, is a big, rugged winger with a scorer’s touch. He has 14 goals and 13 assists (27 points) in 63 games with the Sabres this season and will replace Patrick Marron in Anaheim after he was dealt to the Edmonton Oilers.
McGinn has been out with a back injury since November 15th. He is going to be evaluated this week and the Avalanche will make a decision on whether or not McGinn needs back surgery or if he can recover without going under the knife.
McGinn missed his second straight practice on Wednesday and is questionable for Thursday’s game vs. the Capitals. If McGinn is unable to go, expect Dennis Everberg to take his spot on the third line.

McGinn is a minus-7 with one goal in his last eight games. Cody McLeod will replace him in the Avs lineup.
