Joel Kiviranta will return to the Avalanche after a successful first season with Colorado after signing a one-year contract extension on Monday. The 28-year-old left-winger appeared in 56 games with Colorado in 2023-24, scoring three goals, nine points, 12 PIMs and 48 SOG.

Kiviranta missed the Avalanche's previous two games due to an undisclosed injury and is a game-time decision for Game 1 vs. Dallas after missing practice on Monday. The 28-year-old averaged 10:14 TOI/GP in the opening series and had an assist, two PIMs, three SOG and a +2 plus/minus in three games.

Kiviranta did not play Sunday's 5-1 game-four victory over the Winnipeg Jets and could miss a second straight game. In the series' first three games, Kiviranta tallied one assist and nine hits while averaging 10:14 ice time.

Kiviranta has not played since March 13th but will be available for Thursday's game in Minnesota. Jean-Luc Foudy will sit in his place.

Kiviranta is expected to miss an extended period of time with a lower-body injury. Kiviranta does not need surgery but the Stars do not have a timeline on his return. Marian Studenic was recalled from the AHL on Tuesday and will replace him in the lineup on Wednesday.

Kiviranta missed the last five games with an illness but will replace Jacob Peterson in the lineup on Monday. Kiviranta has just one goal with five assists (six points) in 51 games this season.

Kiviranta has been a healthy scratch for the last two games and will miss a third straight on Tuesday.
