Ortio went 0-2-0 with a 4.28 GAA and .868 SV% in four games with the Flames. He heads back to Stockton, where he hasn’t played a game this season.

Ortio starts Friday vs. Montreal.

Ortio stopped all five shots that he faced after replacing the injured Jonas Hiller on Wednesday in Ottawa. In his first start of the season he surrendered four goals on 35 shots in a loss in Brooklyn, but he enters play with a .911 SV% in four periods of hockey this season. He draws a tough assignment vs. a Montreal team who has lost two straight after winning their first nine.

Ortio stopped all five shots that he faced after replacing Jonas Hiller in the Flames’ loss to the Rangers on Sunday night. With Karri Ramo now in Stockton (AHL), Ortio has a chance to carve out a nice role alongside Hiller. With Hiller struggling last night, a nice outing from Ortio on Monday would go a long way.

Ortio will play in his first NHL game since January 21st. That night he was pulled after allowing four goals on 11 shots. He has gone 4-1-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .931 SV% in his brief time with the Flames this season. He will be playing behind a young, makeshift lineup for the Flames as they have elected to give a number of players the night off.

The Flames have recalled Joni Ortio from Adirondack (AHL).

Ortio, 23, will serve as Jonas Hiller’s backup while Karri Ramo is out. Ortio has gone 4-1-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .931 SV%in five games with the Flames this season. In 35 games in the AHL, he has gone 20-12-1 with a 2.64 GAA and .914 SV%.

Ortio allowed one goal on 34 shots in the Flames win in Los Angeles on Monday. Since being recalled, Ortio has been unbelievable. He has won all four of his starts while posting a 1.23 GAA and .958 SV%. On Wednesday he will get his fifth straight start in Anaheim.

Ortio allowed one goal on 34 shots in the Flames win in Los Angeles on Monday. Since being recalled, Ortio has been unbelievable. He has won all four of his starts while posting a 1.23 GAA and .958 SV%. On Wednesday it looks like he will get his fifth straight start in Anaheim.

Ortio stopped 19 of 22 shots in the Flames 4-3 OT win over the Sharks. He joined the Flames in the middle of a West Coast road-trip and has gone 3-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA and .953 SV%. He will look to continue his winning ways tonight, but has another tough matchup in Los Angeles.

Ortio stopped 27 of 28 shots in the Flames 4-1 win over the Coyotes on Thursday. Since being recalled from Adirondack he has gone 2-0-0 with a 0.50 GAA, .984 SV% and one shutout. He will make his third straight start tonight in San Jose—the Sharks are 5-5-0 in their last 10 games.

In his first NHL start of the season, Ortio stopped all 36 shots that he faced in the Flames 1-0 shutout win over the Canucks on Saturday. The shutout earned Ortio another start tonight vs. the visiting Coyotes. He should make for a strong spot-start, especially in win-only leagues—The Coyotes have lost four of six while being outscored 24-13.

Ortio, 23, has gone 17-8-1 with a 2.52 GAA and .916 SV% in 27 games with Adirondack this season. He has been recalled to serve as Jonas Hiller’s backup with Karri Ramo on IR.

Ortio, 23, appeared in nine games for the Flames last season. He went 4-4- with a 2.52 GAA and .891 SV% in those contests. He will likely start the year in the AHL, but could be the goalie of the future for the Flames. If Jonas Hiller or Karri Ramo are to get hurt this season, Ortio will be the first netminder recalled from Abbotsford.

The Flames have sent Joni Ortio back to Abbotsford (AHL).

His return is not performance based, but is mandated by the CBA. The Flames can recall him and send Joey MacDonald back to the AHL, but will burn one of their recalls after the trade deadline. Ortio was 4-4-0 with a 2.52 GAA and .891 SV% with the Flames.

Ortio stopped 13 of 14 shots in a 3-1 win over the Sabres on Tuesday. Karri Ramo and Reto Berra combined for a 20-26-7 record before Ortio was recalled. Since the 22-year-old has arrived in Calgary he has gone 4-4-0 with a 2.16 GAA and .906 SV%. On a sub-par Flames team, you can't start him every night, but on night's like tonight with strong matchups, he is a reasonable goalie-2.

Ortio stopped 23 of 26 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Coyotes on Saturday. Ortio has faced an average of 27 shots per game in his first seven career NHL starts. In those seven outing he has gone 3-4-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .904 SV%, he has done a good job solidifying the Flames crease and makes for a nice spot start tonight with the Sabres in town, possibly giving Nathan Lieuwen his first NHL start.

Ortio allowed two goals on 22 shots in a 7-2 win over the Ducks on Wednesday. Since being recalled, Ortio has gone 3-3-0 with a 2.20 GAA and .907 SV%. He will face a Coyotes team who rank 16th in the NHL in scoring and have won four of their last six.
