Gorges will come out of the Sabres lineup on Monday and will be replacing by Nathan Beaulieu, who will be returning after missing two games with an illness of his own.
After being held out of the first three games of the season, Gorges got into the last four contests but is now sidelined with an undisclosed ailment. The Sabres have a couple of solid defensemen on the roster so this is not a huge loss for them at this time.
Gorges has been sidelined since January 5th, but will return to the lineup tonight vs. the Senators. Gorges doesn’t have a lot of offensive upside as he comes into play with just one assist in 34 games. Where he has value is his 77 hits and 62 blocked shots.
Somehow, Gorges will likely play tonight just one week after it was announced that he would miss more than two months with a foot fracture. This is a miraculous recovery by Gorges, who comes into play with just one assist in 23 games this season.
Gorges was injured in Thursday’s win over the Rangers after being hit in the foot by a shot. With Gorges out, the Sabres have recalled Brendan Guhle from the Western Hockey League.

Gorges joins Zach Bogosian as injured Sabres’ defensemen who could miss the season opener. Those are both big losses for a young Buffalo team. Cody Franson and Rasmus Ristolainen will likely be leaned on to shoulder the load while Gorges and Bogosian recover.

There is no timeline for Gorges return, but coach Ted Nolan wouldn’t say that Gorges season was over. Gorges would have likely lined up alongside new-comer Zach Bogosian, but with Gorges out, Andre Benoit played with Bogosian on Sunday.
