Dowling will make his Devils' debut on Thursday, having not appeared in the NHL since playing 22 games with Vancouver in the 2021-22 season. Maxwell Willman will sit in his place.

The Devils have recalled Dowling from the Utica Comets of the AHL in correspondence to Michael McLeod taking an indefinite leave of absence. The 33-year-old Dowling has 19 points (8G / 11A) in 30 games with Utica this season.

Dowling had 11 goals, 35 assists, 18 PIMs and a +3 plus/minus through 56 games with Abbotsford (AHL) and has signed a two-year, two-way contract worth $1.55 million ($775,000 AAV) with New Jersey. The 32-year-old forward last played in the NHL in 2021-22 and brings six goals, 12 assists and 93 SOG across 98 career NHL games to the Devils.

With Dowling going into protocol, the Canucks will likely have to go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen in Thursday's game in Los Angeles.

The Canucks said Dowling's absence from Monday's practice was "maintenance" related but he landed on IR on Tuesday. Justin Bailey was recalled from the AHL to take Dowling's spot on the roster.

Dowling has not played since January 29th so he'll get a couple of games in inn Texas before being recalled later in the week.

Dowling has been a healthy scratch for the last seven games but will play Tuesday because Radek Faksa is out with an upper-body injury. Dowling has registered three goals and three assists (six points) in 24 games this season.

Dowling drew into the lineup on Saturday because Mattias Janmark was dealing with an upper-body injury, but Janmark is back tonight which will make Dowling a healthy scratch for the fourth time in five games.

Dowling returned from injury on Sunday but will come back out of the lineup in Minnesota. Dowling will be replaced by Mattias Janmark.

Dowling will not play Monday vs. the Golden Knights, so Roope Hintz will move up to the Stars top-line between Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Being listed as day-to-day make Dowling questionable to play Tuesday in Chicago.

Dowling recorded an assist in his season debut on Tuesday, playing extremely well on the Stars second line. They will reward him with a chance to play with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn tonight vs. the Ducks. Dowling had six points (2G / 4A) in seven games with Texas (AHL) before being called-up.

Dowling has recorded two goals and four assists (six points) in seven games with Texas this season. The 28-year-old centre has registered just two assists in nine career NHL games.
