Gudlevskis has had some strong performances while representing Latvia internationally, but has not posted a SV% above .907 in single AHL season. Gudlevskis will likely report to Bridgeport (AHL) to start 2017-18.

The Lightning re-signed Kristers Gudlevskis to a one-year, two-way contract.

Arguably, Gudlevskis, 23, is good enough to be at the NHL level, but in Tampa Bay he is the third best option, which limits him to the AHL level. He was 16-12-8 with a 2.83 GAA and .907 SV% in 41 games with Syracuse last season and the only way he makes it to the NHL this year is as an injury replacement or if the Lightning end up trading Ben Bishop.

Gudlevskis made a name for himself with Latvia in the 2014 Winter Olympics. Now it looks like the 21-year-old goaltender might also be on Tampa Bay’s roster when the NHL schedule resumes.

They need him as an insurance policy because backup netminder Anders Lindback hasn’t been cleared to play after sustaining an ankle injury. Gudlevskis would likely serve as Ben Bishop's back-up, but his unreal 55 save performance vs. Team Canada in Sochi, shows he can handle the NHL.

Gudlevskis gets the call vs. Canada.

Gudlevskis gave up five goals on 30 shots in a 5-3 loss to Sweden in his Olympic debut. After Edgars Masalskis made 32 saves on Tuesday, it is surprising to see Latvia give the start to the inexperienced Gudlevskis. It will be a tough task for the Latvian's to upset Canada and advance to the semi-finals.
