Eriksson had one assist while skating in just seven games with the Canucks in 2020-21. That's not the type of output you want from a player who is making $6.0M AAV for one more season. The Canucks dumped some bad contracts in this trade but it should also provide Eriksson to get on the ice more frequently in 2021-22. Since signing that six-year, $36.0M contract, Eriksson has scored just 38 goals with 52 assists (90 points) in 252 games.

Eriksson was scratched for the first 14 games of the season but will replace Zack MacEwen in the lineup in Toronto. The 35-year-old winger, who had 13 points (6G / 7A) in 49 games last season, will start the game in the top-6 with Bo Horvat.

There is no word on who he will replace in the lineup but the Canucks reportedly have a couple of players banged up. In addition to Eriksson, Jake Virtanen will also enter the lineup on Tuesday. The veteran winger had just 13 points (6G / 7A) in 49 regular-season games.

Eriksson has been a healthy scratch for the last seven games but will draw into the lineup vs. the Penguins because Josh Leivo is out for 2-to-3 months. Eriksson, who has just one goal in 17 games, will skate with Bo Horvat.

The Canucks originally labeled Eriksson as “week-to-week,” but the Swedish winger was back on the ice for Monday’s morning skate. The veteran should be ready for the start of the 2019 regular season.

Eriksson did not travel with Vancouver on their five-game road trip so he was already expected to miss at least a few games so his move to IR does not change his status at all.

Eriksson played just 1:09 TOI before leaving last night’s game with an apparent lower-body injury. The Canucks are back in action on Tuesday, so monitor Eriksson’s status during the morning skate.

Eriksson, 30, was a key part of the Tyler Seguin trade back in 2013 but the Bruins lost him for nothing. He is coming off of his best season with Boston, having collected 30 goals and 33 assists (63 points) in 82 games. Eriksson is a player who rarely misses games and is a threat to score 30 goals with 30 helpers every season. He should click well with fellow Swedes Henrik and Daniel Sedin.
