The Canucks have acquired Madison Bowey and a 2021 fifth-round pick from the Blackhawks for a 2021 fourth-round pick.
The Blackhawks have signed Madison Bowey to a two-year deal worth $1.45M ($725K AAV).
Bowey spent the 2020 season with the Red Wings, where he had three goals and 14 assists (17 points) in 53 games. The 2013 second-round pick has picked up 39 points (5G / 34A) in 154 career NHL games with the Capitals and the Red Wings.

Bowey was recently sent back to the Griffins, where he had one assist in one game, but has been recalled because Jonathan Ericsson was hurt on Thursday night. Bowey has posted reasonable offensive numbers this season, ranking eighth on the team in points (8) but has struggled a bit on the defensive side.

Bowey was placed on waivers on Monday and will go to the Griffins after clearing on Tuesday afternoon. The 24-year-old has been in-and-out of the Red Wings lineup this season, posting eight points (1G / 7A) in 22 games but has struggled defensively and that has resulted in a minus-13 rating.

Bowey sat as a healthy scratch in the first two games but will replace Trevor Daley (lower-body) in the lineup on Tuesday. After being acquired from the Capitals last season, Bowey had four points (1G / 3A) in 17 games with the Red Wings.

Bowey is a former second-round pick (2013) who started the year with the Capitals but has been a healthy scratch a lot recently. Bowey has one goal and five assists (six points) in 33 games this season. The 23-year-old is a strong skater, good passer and was a tremendous hitter in juniors but hasn’t shown it as frequently in the NHL. He should settle in as a third-pairing defenseman in Detroit for now and the Red Wings hope he can continue to grow into a top-4 defenseman.
