Marco Scandella News
The worse news is Marco Scandella appears to have suffered another head injury. Mike Yeo said he didn’t know for certain, but Scandella was hit hard (shoulder to chin) by Ethan Moreau on his fourth shift and never returned. He looked out of it after the game, was definitely glum and didn’t want to talk. Remember, Scandella missed 14 games last season with a concussion.

Rough break for Scandella, who battled the same injury last season and was just establishing himself as a regular. The Montreal native had scored two goals in 16 games this season. Look for Clayton Stoner to replace him in the lineup.

Mike Yeo said he believes Marco Scandella will be a top defenseman in the NHL for a long time. The Wild coach said since the start of training camp that Scandella is good enough to be a top-four defenseman.

Scandella gets his first legitimate shot at a top-6 assignment due to Lundin's injury. Last season he produced two assists in his first NHL campaign. Look for Scandella to improve those point totals in his first full season.

On the blue line: Marco Scandella, Justin Falk and Nate Prosser (at least one more cut will definitely come if Lundin is ready to start the season)

The Wild carried eight defensemen at times next year so expect only one of the three youngters to get sent down. Of the three, Scandella has the highest upside but would be used as a 5th or 6th defender. Last season he produced two assists in his first NHL campaign. Look for Scandella to improve those point totals in his first full season.

"What you want from guys is to force you to make decisions, for a guy to come in and say, 'Here I am,' " Yeo said. "Marco is doing that."

The former Team Canada standout has a good chance of making the team but has to work hard to earn his shot. Last season he produced two assists in his first NHL campaign. Look for Scandella to improve those point totals in his first full season.
