Hossa is set to miss the entire 2017-18 season because of a skin disorder and the NHL have allowed the Blackhawks to place him on LTIR, giving them some salary cap relief.
In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Hossa said that he has been undergoing treatment over the last few years for a progressive skin disorder. The medication that he is on comes with “severe side effects” which is why he will not be able to play hockey during the upcoming season. The Blackhawks will move him to the LTIR and get some cap relief when the season starts, but this is a huge blow to their top-6.
