Matt Smaby News
The Ducks announced on Saturday that defenseman Matt Smaby will be out two to three months because of a torn ligament in his right thumb.

Smaby had a chance to make the team out of training camp but likely gives his role over to Nate Guenin. Last season the Minneapolis, Minnesota native was held pointless in his 32 games with the Lightning. His zero goals over 122 NHL games indicates he holds no fantasy hockey value.

But with Toni Lydman and Kurtis Foster expected to miss the first few games of the season, Smaby recognizes that this could be his opportunity to land a job with the big club when it breaks camp.

Smaby figures to slot onto the bottom pairing. Last season he was held pointless in 32 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Considering he has scored no goals through 122 NHL games, he is not relevant in fantasy hockey.
