Maltsev failed to pick up a point across five games with Colorado in 2022-23 but has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Los Angeles Kings worth $775,000 AAV. The 25-year-old left-winger will be joining his third team and has six goals and nine points across 56 career NHL games after being drafted in the fourth-round (102nd overall) by the New Jersey Devils in 2016.
Maltsev will get the call-up to the Colorado Avalanche after a productive start to his 2022-23 season with the Colorado Eagles of the AHL. Prior to his call-up Monday, Maltsev had four assists in his first four games in the AHL with the Eagles.
Maltsev opened the season in the AHL but got off to a hot start, picking up four points (1G / 3A) in two games. Maltsev and Martin Kaut were both recalled and are expected to make their season debuts on Tuesday.
Maltsev was a fourth-round pick of the Devils in 2016 and appeared in 33 games with them in 2021. The 23-year-old winger had nine points (6G / 3A) with the Devils and has picked up 12 goals with 10 assists (22 points) in his first 50 AHL games. Given the depth of the Avalanche roster, Maltsev seems likely to start 2021-22 in the AHL.
Maltsev was a fourth-round pick in 2016 and had 21 points (11G / 10A) in 49 AHL games a season ago. The 22-year-old is expected to skate with Pavel Zacha and Nikita Gusev in his debut.
