Koivula had two assists, five SOG, four PIMs and a +1 plus/minus through eight games this season and has been returned to Bridgeport (AHL) on loan Monday. The 24-year-old returns to Bridgeport, where he had 12 goals and 13 assists through 45 games played earlier in the season.

With Koivula out, Josh Bailey will shift to centre, and Cal Clutterbuck will return from a lengthy injury absence.

Koivula failed to pick up a point in his only game of NHL action with the New York Islanders and has been reassigned to Bridgeport (AHL) Friday. The 24-year-old heads back to the minors where he had 10 goals and 21 points through 42 games prior to his promotion.

Koivula has 10 goals, 11 assists, 33 PIMs and a -2 plus/minus through 42 games with Bridgeport (AHL) and has been recalled for the first time this season Monday. The 24-year-old left-winger has previously played in 20 games across two NHL seasons, picking up two assists and 12 SOG.

Koivula played in three straight games while J-G Pageau was in COVID-19 protocol. Koivula had one assist and four shots on goal while averaging 10:44 TOI/gm. He returns to the AHL with Pageau returning to the lineup on Tuesday.

Koivula was in the Islanders for two of the last three games but was sent to the AHL to make room for Zdeno Chara (upper-body) to be activated from IR. Kiefer Bellows will likely replace Koivula in the bottom-6.

Koivula had one assist in three NHL games but returns to the AHL with Brock Nelson and Casey Cizikas set to play Saturday. Koivula has three goals and 12 assists (15 points) in 17 AHL games this season.

Last season, Koivula went back to Finland on a COVID-loan, scoring three goals with eight assists (11 points) in 14 games with HIFK Helsinki (Liiga). Upon returning to North America, he spent the whole season with Bridgeport (AHL) posting nine points (2G / 7A) in 20 games. Given the depth on the Islanders roster, Koivula will start the season in the AHL.

Koivula was a healthy scratch for the last two games and returns to the AHL, where he has two goals and three assists (five points) in 10 games this season.

Koivula continues to bounce between the AHL and NHL but has yet to suit up for a game with the Islanders. During his time with Bridgeport, the 21-year-old has registered two goals and three assists in 10 games.

Koivula, 21, has two goals and two assists in seven games with Bridgeport this season. He did not appear in a game with the Islanders during his first call-up but could make his NHL debut on this home-stand.

Koivula has two assists in six games with Bridgeport this season. With Matt Martin and Tom Kuhnhackl out long-term, Koivula is expected to make his NHL debut on Friday.

Koivula, 19, was a fourth round pick of the Islanders in 2016 and has been playing in Finland. The 6-foot-3, 220 lbs. winger picked up nine goals and 18 assists (27 points) in 53 games with Ilves Tampere this season—good for fifth on the team.
