Stastny was a valuable fantasy asset for almost the entirety of his 17-year career, with his production tailing off only in recent seasons. The 37-year-old scored 293 goals and added 529 assists for a total of 822 points across 1145 career games spent with the Avalanche, Blues, Jets, Golden Knights, and the Hurricanes. He most recently played 73 games with Carolina last season, tallying nine goals and 13 assists.
Stastny has eight goals, 12 assists, 72 SOG, 14 PIMs and a +2 plus/minus through 64 games but will be a healthy scratch Tuesday. Jack Drury will replace him in the Hurricanes' lineup.
Stastny was a healthy scratch for the Hurricanes' game Wednesday but will find his way back into the lineup Thursday vs. Edmonton. In 12 games played this season, he has four assists and seven SOG.
Stastny has missed the last three games with a lower-body injury and COVID-19 protocol but will replace Nikolaj Ehlers (lower-body) in the lineup on Thursday. Stastny has 16 points (8G / 8A) in 24 games this season.
Stastny will miss Thursday's game in Detroit, leaving the Jets top line without Stastny and Nikolaj Ehlers. Expect Cole Perfetti and Evgeny Svechnikov to move up into the top-6.
It's unclear what is ailing Stastny but he was not on the ice for Thursday's morning skate and will be a game-time decision in Colorado.
Stastny has missed the last eight games with a bone bruise on his foot. Stastny is expected to return in a bottom-6 role and comes in with eight points (4G / 4A) in 11 games this season.
Stastny was banged up vs. the Islanders on Saturday and will not play on Tuesday. With Stastny out, Jansen Harkins will skate on the Jets' second line with Andrew Copp and Nikolaj Ehlers.
Stastny is still an effective veteran and will stick around with the Jets for another year. He had 29 points (13G / 16A) in 56 games last year and is still capable of filling a top-6 role in 2021-22.
Instead of overpaying a centre for four or five years in free agency, the Jets go back to a player they're familiar with via trade. Stastny was acquired at the trade deadline in 2018 and he had 28 points (10G / 18A) in 36 games between the regular season and playoffs combined. At 34-years-old, Stastny isn't the player he once was but he is a good short-term solution as the Jets' second line centre.
