Pheonix Copley News
Copley has been loaned to Ontario (AHL).

Copley has been with the Kings since being recalled from Ontario (AHL) on October 16th but strictly served as the backup to David Rittich during his stay. Copley played eight games with the Kings last season (4-1-2), posting a 3.16 GAA and .870 SV%, and has a 3.04 GAA and .864 SV% after one game with the Ontario Reign (1-0-0) this season.

Copley has been recalled on an emergency basis from Ontario (AHL).

Darcy Kuemper (lower body) is out day-to-day, resulting in Copley's first call-up to the Kings this season. Copley played eight games with the Kings last season (4-1-2), posting a 3.16 GAA and .870 SV%, and has a 3.04 GAA and .864 SV% after one game with the Ontario Reign (1-0-0) this season. Copley will serve as the backup to David Rittich on Wednesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Kings re-signed Pheonix Copley to a one-year contract worth $825K.

Despite missing the majority of the 2023-24 season with a Knee injury, Pheonix Copley re-signed for a one-year contract worth $825,000 on Monday. The 32-year-old Alaska native was only able to appear in eight games in 2023-24 prior to his injury, posting a 4-1-2 record, 3.16 GAA and .870 SV%.

Pheonix Copley (undisclosed) had to leave practice early after being helped off by training staff.

If Copley has to miss any time this season, the Kings will likely recall David Rittich, who has spent the entire season with the Ontario Reign (AHL), posting a 2.63 GAA and .901 SV% in 16 games (7-6-3). In any event, Cam Talbot should continue to see the lion's share of action between the pipes as he continues to have an exceptional season.

Copley will start in Columbus on Tuesday.

Copley and Cam Talbot were originally slated to be a timeshare tandem, but a horrid start to the season for Copley derailed that plan and saw him see limited action in the first six weeks of the season. Since then, Copley has regained some trust from the Kings' coaching staff, as he has a sensational .980 SV% across his last two outings (2-0-0) and will start for the third time in seven games. The Kings have a favourable matchup for Copley on Tuesday as they are -199 road favourites against a Columbus Blue Jackets team that ranks in the bottom third of the league offensively (2.85 GF / GP).

Pheonix Copley will start Saturday vs. Montreal.

Copley will take over the Kings' crease for the second time in three games Saturday vs. Montreal after stopped 30 of 31 shots (.968 SV%) in a victory last start. The 31-year-old Alaskan native has struggled out of the gate this season, with his 2-0-2 record, 3.75 GAA and .845 SV%. He will face the Montreal Canadiens for a matinee showdown, who has won two straight games but are 25th in the NHL in goals per game (2.85).

Copley will start in Arizona on Monday.

Copley, widely believed to be a time-share goalie with Cam Talbot at the beginning of the season, will start for only the second time since the end of October on Monday. Oddly enough, of Copley's four starts this season, two have been against the Arizona Coyotes, who the Kings will face on Monday. In his first contest against the Coyotes, Copley was serviceable, saving 24 of 27 shots (.889 SV%) in a 6-3 victory, followed up by allowing three goals on six shots (.500 SV%) before being relieved by Talbot, who salvaged an eventual 5-4 victory for the Kings. Even with Copley between the pipes, the Kings are -144 road favourites against a Coyotes team that will be without their top-line center, Barret Hayton.

Copley will start Thursday's game against the Penguins.

It's Copley's first start since October 27th's game in Arizona, when he was pulled in favour of Cam Talbot after allowing three goals on just six shots. Thanks to his own struggles and an excellent run of form from Talbot, Copley has been relegated back to his usual back-up role after he made a career-high 37 appearances for the Kings last year. Copley owns an abysmal .788 SV% and a 4.98 GAA across three starts this season. Copley and the Kings are slight favourites at -120 over the Penguins on Thursday.

Copley will start in Arizona on Friday.

Copley will be rewarded with his second consecutive start after making 24 of 27 saves on Tuesday for a 6-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes, his first win of the season. The Kings coaching brass hopes familiarity will help Copley find some consistency in his game as the team will match up against the Coyotes once again, this time in Arizona. Scoring goals hasn't been the Coyotes' forte this season, averaging 2.50 goals per game, as such, the Kings are listed as -132 road favourites.

Copley will start Tuesday's game against the Coyotes.

Copley will start his second game of the season and hope to bounce back after a terrible outing in his season debut. Copley allowed five goals on 19 shots in his only game this season, a 6-5 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Pressure will be on for Copley as another poor outing could lead to the Kings eventually giving David Rittich a shot at backup duties. The Kings are -179 home favourites on Tuesday against an Arizona Coyotes team that has been selective offensively (2.40 GF/GP) and stingy defensively (1.80 GA/GP) through five contests (3-2-0).

Copley will start Saturday vs. the Hurricanes.

Cam Talbot started the Kings' season opener but they will turn to Copley in their second game on Saturday. Copley enjoyed success in 2022-23, going 24-6-3 with a 2.64 GAA and .903 SV%. As impressive as his win total was last season, he draws a dreadful matchup on Saturday and should be benched for better options.
