The Hurricanes re-signed Philip Samuelsson to a one-year extension worth $650K.

Samuelsson, 25, was a second round pick (No.61 overall) in 2009 but has bounced around a bit and has only appeared in a combined 13 NHL games. After being acquired from the Canadiens, Samuelsson had 14 points (3G / 11A) in 25 games with the Charlotte Checkers, finishing the season with 19 points (4G / 15A) in 65 AHL contests.

Samuelsson, 24, was a second round pick in 2009, but has yet to have an impact at the NHL level. He is coming off of a good year with Springfield (AHL), where he had 31 points (4G / 27A) in 56 games, but still wasn’t good enough for the Coyotes to re-sign him. Now in Montreal, look for him to land in St. John’s (AHL) to start the year.

Samuelson had five shots and two penalty minutes while averaging 15:51 TOI in three games with the Coyotes during his call-up. He heads back to the AHL with Nicklas Grossmann (lower-body) set to return on Wednesday.

Samuelsson, 24, recorded four assists in 10 games with Springfield before being recalled, tonight he will make his season debut and is still in search of his first career NHL point. Samuelsson will skate with Connor Murphy on the Coyotes’ third pair.

Samuelsson, 23, was a second-round pick of the Penguins in 2009. He is a solid defensive defeseman with little to offer in terms of offence or fantasy value. He had one goal and six assists in 38 AHL game with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Portland prior to being recalled. He will be paired with Zybnek Michalek.

Samuelsson, 23, was acquired from the Penguins in the Rob Klinkhammer trade in early December. The 2009 second-round pick has registered one goal and two assist in 16 games with Portland and has a total of seven points (1G / 6A) in 38 AHL games this season. He could make his Coyotes debut tonight vs. San Jose.

Samuelsson, 23, was the Penguins second round pick (61st overall) in 2009. The 6-foot-2 blue liner is not known for his offensive game, but has a reliable defensive game. He had four assists in 22 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) this season. Samuelsson will likely report to Portland (AHL).

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Philip Samuelsson from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL).

Samuelsson was the 61st overall pick in 2009 and this marks the first time that he has been recalled to the NHL in his career. This season he has totaled six assists and a plus-3 in 26 AHL games with WBS. He will fill the void left by the large number of injuries on the Penguins blueline.
