After a disappointing start to the season, ranking 29th with 17 points (7-11-3), the Predators have shaken things up by trading Tomasino to the Penguins for a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft. The 23-year-old Tomasino only has one point (0G / 1A) in 11 games this season after scoring 20 (7G / 13A) in 41 last season.

Tomasino was a first-rounder in 2019 but has yet to become a full-time NHLer with the Predators. Last year, he once again split his campaign between the NHL and AHL, recording 20 points (7G / 13A) in 41 games with Nashville. During his time in Milwaukee (AHL), he had 18 points (11G / 7A) in 22 games. Following the additions of Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault in the offseason, Tomasino is going to be battling for a bottom-6 spot in the lineup in training camp.

Tomasino has been reassigned to the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL as Egor Afanasyev and Mark Jankowski were recalled in adjacent moves. Before scoring three points (2G / 1A) in his last three games, Tomasino was limited to only three points (1G / 2A) in his previous 12 and has failed to translate his pedigree from being Nashville's first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft to the NHL level this season.

Tomasino will return to the lineup on Monday after being a healthy scratch in each of the Predators' previous two games. Kiefer Sherwood will sit in his place. Tomasino has five goals and 12 assists in 38 games this season.

Cody Glass will draw into the lineup in favour of Tomasino, who has been held off the scoresheet in three straight games while recording a -1 plus/minus and three shots on goal. Thursday's game against the Minnesota Wild marks the second time in three contests that Tomasino has been a healthy scratch.
