Garbutt picked up two goals and one assist in 27 games this season before being placed on waiver earlier in the week. He heads to the AHL for the first time since 2011-12 when he was still with the Stars.
Garbutt had two goals and four assists in 43 games in his first season with the Blackhawks. He was acquired in the Patrick Sharp deal this summer but is now on his way to Montreal. He has 76 points (32G / 44A) in 241 career NHL games.
Garbutt is expected to miss his second straight game with an illness. The Blackhawks recalled Brandon Mashinter from Rockford (AHL) and he is expected to play in Garbutt’s spot on Thursday.
Garbutt will miss Saturday, Wednesday and Friday—he is eligible to return to the lineup next Sunday in Edmonton.
Garbutt was back at practice on Monday and it sounds like he is healthy enough to return to the lineup on Tuesday vs. the Oilers. Curtis McKenzie was sent back to the AHL to make room for Garbutt, who missed the last three games.
Garbutt has missed the last three games with an upper-body injury, but was back on the ice this morning. The Stars take on the Oilers on Tuesday but it seems unlikely that Garbutt will be in the lineup tomorrow. Friday vs. the Wild seems more likely.

Garbutt left the ice during Tuesday’s morning skate with an upper-body injury and it forced him to miss Tuesday’s loss to the Hurricanes. There is no indication of what kind of injury Garbutt is dealing with, but consider him day-to-day for now.
Garbutt, 28, has posted a career-high 18 points (10G / 8A) in 46 games for Dallas this season. Amongst team leaders, he is third in hits (81), fourth in shots (105), and sixth in both goals (10) and plus/minus rating (+4).

Garbutt missed Thursday's game in Toronto after being injured on Tuesday in Chicago. He has five goals and two assists in 21 games, with three goals and two assists coming in his last four games. He is not a viable fantasy asset.
Consider Garbutt day-to-day, no word on if he will be available for Saturday's game against Philadelphia. If Tyler Seguin (concussion) is available to go tonight he will replace Garbutt in the lineup, if not Travis Morin will slot in.
The incident occurred at 6:28 of the first period in Anaheim's 6-3 home win over Dallas on Sunday. Garbutt left the penalty box and skated at Penner before leaving his skates to deliver a check. He hit Penner in the head, and the Anaheim forward had to leave the game. Penner didn't travel with the team for a road game in Toronto on Tuesday.
Garbutt exited the penalty box in the second period of a 6-3 Anaheim victory and skated into Penner in the slot just as he released the puck striking him with his shoulder in the head area. No penalty was called at the time. Penner had to be helped from the ice and did not return. The in-person hearing allows the league's office of player safety more latitude in levying suspensions greater than five games in length although the fact there is an in-person hearing does not guarantee there will be supplemental discipline.
Garbutt draws back into the lineup tonight. He has a goal and an assist in 13 games.
