Oleksy, 31, is a veteran blueliner, who has just one assist in 11 games with the Penguins this season. He has spent the majority of the time in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL), where he had one goal and four assists (five points). He will likely report to the Toronto Marlies.
Oleksy has one goal and three assists (four points) in 10 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) this season. The 30-year-old blueliner has appeared in 62 career NHL games with the Capitals, but will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday following his call-up to the Penguins.
Washington will play three of the next four games at home, so they don’t really need a seventh defenseman right now. If one of their six regular blue liners gets banged up, expect Oleksy to be recalled once again.
Oleksy, 29, has not played a game with the Capitals this season. He has 13 points (4G / 9A) and 106 PIMS in 44 games with Hershey. He has 10 points (2G / 8A) and 53 PIMS in 33 games with the Capitals last year.
With Dmitri Orlov not quite ready and the long-term injury to Nate Schmidt, the Capitals recall Oleksy to serve as their seventh defenseman.
Olesky was recalled prior to Saturday’s game, but served as a healthy scratch. His stay with the Capitals was short-lived.
Oleksy has skated in 33 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) this season, earning nine points (four goals, five assists) and 80 penalty minutes. Oleksy has registered 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) and 86 penalty minutes in 61 career games with the Capitals.
Oleksy had been a healthy scratch for the last six games, he had 10 points (2G / 8A) in 33 games for the Capitals this season. Nate Schmidt has been recalled with Olesky going down.
Oleksy will replace Jack Hillen on the Capitals blueline tonight.
