Iowa (AHL) got their goaltender for 2024-25 after Minnesota signed Troy Grosenick to a one-year, two-way contract on Tuesday. The 34-year-old last played in the NHL in 2020-21 with Los Angeles but spent 2023-24 with Milwaukee (AHL) and had a 17-8-2 record with a 2.56 GAA and .907 SV%.
With Juuse Saros (roster management) not suiting up on Friday night, the Predators have recalled Grosenick from the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL). Grosenick has a 2.56 GAA and .907 SV% in 28 games this season (17-7-1) with Milwaukee. He will back up Kevin Lankinen against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Grosenick was 3-2-0 with a .892 SV% and 3.32 GAA in 2022-23 with Lehigh Valley (AHL) and has signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 with Nashville. The 33-year-old goaltender last made an appearance in the NHL in 2020-21 with Los Angeles and has a 2-2-0 career record with a .933 SV% and 2.27 GAA.
Grosenick has gone 16-5-4 with a 2.02 GAA and .931 SV% in 28 games with Providence this season. Grosenick will serve as Jeremy Swayman's backup on Saturday with Linus Ullmark out with an upper-body injury.
The Kings lost Grosenick on waivers to the Oilers in mid-January but re-claimed the 31-year-old netminder on Saturday. The Oilers waiving him suggests that Mike Smith will be ready to re-join the active roster soon.
Edmonton was in trouble with Mike Smith going on LTIR and Anton Forsberg getting claimed off of waivers but claiming Grosenick gives them a veteran backup with a little NHL experience. The 31-year-old went 20-9-3 with a 2.29 GAA and .920 SV% in 33 AHL games a season ago and most likely leaps over Stuart Skinner as the Oilers’ new No.2 netminder.
Juuse Saros is sick and will not be available on Thursday, so Grosenick comes up to serve as Pekka Rinne’s backup in Columbus.
Grosenick has gone 3-0-0 with a 2.60 GAA and .918 SV% in three starts with the Admirals this season. Grosenick was recalled to take Miroslav Svoboda’s spot as Juuse Saros’ backup while Pekka Rinne is on injured reserve. Grosenick has appeared in just two career NHL games, going 1-1-0 while allowing just three goals on 58 shots (.948 SV%).
Grosenick has fallen down the Sharks goaltending depth chart and heads to Nashville to provide some organizational depth. The 28-year-old has gone 6-9-2 with a 2.98 GAA and .902 SV% in 20 AHL games this season.
Grosenick had been up with the Sharks while Martin Jones was dealing with a lower-body injury but his return to the Barracuda suggests that Jones is ready to at least backup on Tuesday. Grosenick has gone 5-7-2 with a 2.91 GAA and .900 SV% in the AHL this season.
Grosenick, 27, was named the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Award for the AHL’s top goaltender this season, finishing second in wins (30), t-2nd in SV% (.926), third in GAA (2.04) and 1st in shutouts (10). With both Martin Jones and Aaron Dell under contract for 2017-18, Grosenick will likely remain in the AHL next season.
Grosenick was with the Sharks while Alex Stalock was on a conditioning stint. Grosenick did not get into a game—he heads back to San Jose (AHL) where he is 7-4-3 with a 3.03 GAA and .902 SV% this season.
