Benson had two assists and two PIMs in three games with the Bakersfield Condors (AHL) prior to his callup to the Oilers. The 24-year-old will be making his season debut after Klim Kostin was announced out due to visa issues. In 36 career NHL games played, he has one goal and two assists with a -6 plus/minus.
Benson appeared in 29 games with the Oilers last season, scoring one goal with one assist. He started 2023 in the AHL on a conditioning stint, where he's picked up two assists in three games, since returning from a pre-season knee injury.
Benson will be replaced by Devin Shore, who is returning from a 13-game absence due to a lower-body injury. Benson is still searching for his first point of the season (11 GP).
Benson has played in the last two games, averaging just 8:21 TOI/gm but will be replaced by Brendan Perlini on the fourth line vs. the Predators.
