The Hurricanes have signed Tyson Jost to a one-year deal worth $775K.

Tyson Jost will spend his ninth NHL season with Carolina after the depth winger signed a one-year deal worth $775,000 on Monday. The 26-year-old was a one-time 1st round pick (2016 - 10th overall) but has struggled since being acquired by Buffalo two years ago. In 2023-24 he struggled to find himself consistently in the Sabres' lineup which led to three goals and six points in 43 games played.

Jost began the season with the Sabres, scoring four points (2G / 2A) in 29 games, but was placed on waivers in December and has been with the Rochester Americans (AHL) since. In 25 games with Rochester, the 25-year-old Jost has 14 points (4G / 10A).

Jost drew into the Sabres lineup on Wednesday after Tage Thompson was a last-minute scratch due to personal reasons, but was subsequently placed on waivers the following day. Jost played 6:53 time-on-ice, recording a +1 plus/minus, and one shot on goal on Wednesday and will be reassigned to the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Jost will replace Peyton Krebs, who will be a healthy scratch for the Sabres on Wednesday. Jost did not play in the last game for the Sabres but has dressed in 13 of 18 games this season, tallying two points (1G / 1A), and 17 shots on goal while averaging 11:10 time-on-ice. He is expected to slot in on the third line between Jordan Greenway and Victor Olofsson.

Jost is poised to make his season debut on Tuesday against the Lightning as Victor Olofsson is expected to be a healthy scratch. In 71 games between the Sabres and Minnesota Wild, Jost scored 25 points (7G / 18A) last season. He is projected to center the fourth line between Zemgus Girgenson and Kyle Okposo.

Jost was picked up off of waivers from the Wild in November and he registered 22 points (7G / 15A) in 59 games with the Sabres. The former No.10 overall pick has had a tough time getting his offensive game going at the NHL-level but has become a reliable two-way, bottom-6 option.

Jost was a healthy scratch for the Sabres' previous two games but will draw into the lineup Tuesday as he replaced the injured Jordan Greenway. The 25-year-old has seven goals, 12 assists, 81 SOG, 19 PIMs, and a -3 plus/minus through 48 games this season.
