Varone, 24, has scored eight goals with 21 assists (29 points) in 35 games with Rochester this season. He could make his season debut on Tuesday in New Jersey; he has two points (1G / 1A) in nine career NHL games.
Varone had one goal and one assist in nine games with the Sabres. He returns to Rochester where he has totalled eight goals and 25 assists (33 points) in 38 games.
Varone was recalled on Wednesday and will play in his first NHL game tonight vs. Carolina. He had 33 points (8G / 25A) in 38 games with Rochester (AHL) before being recalled.
Varone joins the Sabres for his first career call-up after joining the Americans on a one-year AHL contract prior to the 2011-12 season and then subsequently signing a three-year, entry-level NHL contract in March 2012. Since his breakout season in 2011-12, in which he led the Amerks in scoring with 52 points (11G / 41A) through 76 regular-season games, Varone has recorded 120 points (30G / 90A) in 176 career AHL games played. Varone again leads the 2013-14 Amerks in scoring with 33 points (8G / 25A) in 38 games.
Varone had been playing in Rochester on an AHL deal. He is now eligible to play for the big club.
