Kalynuk had four goals, 15 assists, 86 PIMs and a +13 plus/minus through 61 games between both Abbotsford (AHL) and Hartford (AHL) in 2022-23 and has signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000. The 26-year-old defenseman has appeared in 26 career NHL games, collecting four goals and five assists wo go along with his -9 plus/minus.
Kalynuk had four goals, 13 assists, 46 PIMs and a +5 plus/minus through 46 games with the Abbotsford Canucks (AHL) and has been traded to the New York Rangers for future considerations.
Kalynuk appears set to make his season debut, replacing Caleb Jones in the lineup on Friday. The 24-year-old had nine points (4G / 5A) in 21 games with the Blackhawks last year.
Kalynuk, who spent most of last season with the Blackhawks, missed the start of the 2021-22 season with an ankle injury. Upon returning he was sent to Rockford, where he has scored one goal with two assists in four games. He was recalled Monday after Riley Stillman was placed on IR with a left knee injury.
Kalynuk appeared to be on the inside track to start the season with the Blackhawks as a third-pairing defenseman and quarterback of the second power-play unit. With Kalynuk now out for at least two weeks, Caleb Jones should be on the opening night roster.
Kalynuk was forced to leave Monday's game early but his availability for Wednesday's morning skate is a good sign for tonight's game vs. the Predators. Kalynuk has been a bright spot for Chicago in April, scoring two goals with two assists in his last nine games.
