Mrazek surrendered four goals on 22 shots in the Red Wings’ loss to the Sabres on December 27th. Mrazek has struggled mightily this season, posting a .896 SV% across 21 games, but he broke out in January last year and is hoping that will be the case again this season. Vatrano (foot) is expected to make his season debut on Thursday.

Vatrano, 22, appeared in 39 games with the Bruins last season, collecting eight goals with three assists (11 points). During his conditioning stint, Vatrano picked up two goals in two games with Providence. Vatrano will skate with Austin Czarnik and Riley Nash.

Frank Vatrano
The Bruins have recalled Frank Vatrano from Providence (AHL).

Vatrano was on a conditioning stint with Providence over the weekend and scored a goal in both games. Vatrano had been sidelined with torn ligaments in his foot that he suffered in the preseason. The 22-year-old has eight goals and three assists (11 points) in 39 career NHL games (all in 2015-16). Expect him to be in the lineup on Tuesday.

Mrazek will start Saturday vs. the Ducks.

Mrazek was pulled after he allowed three goals on 17 shots in the Red Wings’ loss to the Blue Jackets last Friday. Jimmy Howard started the last three games, but Mrazek will start tonight vs. the Ducks. The 24-year-old has gone 4-4-2 with a 2.87 GAA and .902 SV% at Joe Louis Arena this season. The Ducks come in having won four of five.

Vatrano (foot) did not travel to Montreal.

Vatrano shed his no-contact sweater and was a full participant in Sunday’s practice, but stayed in Boston while the team left for a brief two-game road-trip. Vatrano has yet to play this season after tearing ligaments in his foot during the preseason. Vatrano is nearing a return, but it won’t come until Thursday at the earliest and even that seems unlikely.

Mrazek will start Friday vs. the Blue Jackets.

Mrazek gave up three goals on 34 shots in the Red Wings’ win in Winnipeg on Tuesday. Mark has won his last two starts and four of his last six starts while posting a 2.44 GAA and .913 SV%. Mrazek’s game is improving, but he will be in tough tonight against Blue Jackets team that has won five of their last six games.
