Kochetkov will start in Calgary on Thursday.

The Hurricanes will continue their early-season goalie rotation and switch back to Kochetkov in the crease on Thursday against the Calgary Flames. Kochetkov had a poor effort in his last outing, allowing four goals on 19 shots (.789 SV%) in a 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues, but was stellar in his only other outing, saving 24 of 26 shots (.923 SV%) in a 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils. The Hurricanes enter the action on Thursday as sizeable -193 road favorites despite visiting a Flames squad that is one of four teams without a regulation loss (5-0-1).

Andersen will start on Tuesday in Edmonton.

For the third time in five games to start the 2024-25 season, Andersen will occupy the crease for the Hurricanes. The 35-year-old Andersen is off to another strong campaign, boasting a stellar 1.53 GAA and .936 SV% in his two outings (1-1-0). The Hurricanes enter Tuesday's contest as +110 road underdogs against an Edmonton Oilers club that has underperformed to start the season, being outscored 12-24 in six games (2-4-0).

Frederik Andersen
Andersen will start in Pittsburgh on Friday.

A sparse schedule and a weather postponement have resulted in the Hurricanes playing the fewest games in the league thus far, only twice in the first two weeks of the season, but will turn to Andersen in the crease for their third game on Friday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Andersen has not played in seven days since saving 19 of 21 shots (.905 SV%) in a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andersen will likely see a steady split in playing time with Pyotr Kochetkov throughout the season unless one can run away with the starting job. The Hurricanes enter action on Friday as -161 road favorites against the Penguins.

Ryan (lower-body) has been placed on waivers for the purpose of reassignment.

Ryan has not played an NHL game since the 2020-21 NHL season and will likely debut in the AHL this season after being placed on waivers for the purpose of being reassigned to the Chicago Wolves (AHL). The 31-year-old Ryan has 24 points (4G / 20A) in 145 career NHL games.

Kochetkov will start on Tuesday vs. New Jersey.

In their first game of the season, the Hurricanes were defeated 4-1 by the Tampa Bay Lightning with Frederik Andersen in net. The Hurricanes will turn to Kochetkov for game two on Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils. The 25-year-old Kochetkov has seen his NHL workload increase in his first three seasons, highlighted by a stellar 2.33 GAA and .911 SV% in 42 appearances last season (23-13-4). The Hurricanes enter the action on Tuesday as -161 home favorites against a Devils club that defeated Utah HC yesterday afternoon.

Andersen will start the Hurricanes' season opener against the Lightning on Friday.

Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour was noncommittal about who would be manning Carolina's crease for their season opener on Friday, but it's no surprise to see Andersen get the call. Though he was limited by injuries last season, Andersen was spectacular when he was available. The 35-year-old netminder posted a .932 SV% and a 1.84 GAA to go along with a 13-2-0 record across 16 appearances. Andersen and the Hurricanes enter Friday night as -150 favourites over the Lightning.

Jost has cleared waivers and been assigned to the Chicago Wolves (AHL).

Jost has 456 games of NHL experience since debuting in the 2016-17 season with the Colorado Avalanche, but he spent a sizeable portion of last season in the AHL, registering 14 points (4G / 10A) in 25 games with the Rochester Americans. He looks destined to spend some time in the AHL again this season after clearing waivers and reporting to the Chicago Wolves.

Tyson Jost
Martin cleared waivers on Thursday and has been reassigned to Chicago (AHL).

It was expected by some that Martin might be claimed when originally placed on waivers on Wednesday, but the 29-year-old netminder would not face the same fate that originally brought him to the Hurricanes last season and has been reassigned to Chicago (AHL) after clearing on Thursday. The Oakville native spent 2023-24 split between Columbus and Carolina and produced an ugly 7-9-2 record with a .889 SV% and 3.30 GAA in 19 games last season.

The Hurricanes have signed Seth Jarvis to an eight-year deal worth $63.2 million ($7.9M AAV).

Carolina and Jarvis may have changed the NHL free agent game forever on Friday after they signed an eight-year deal worth $63.2 million ($7.9M AAV) that is much lower than average annual salaries because Jarvis was willing to defer salary. The 22-year-old center was Carolina's 2020 1st-round pick (13th overall) and broke out in 2023-24 finishing second on the Hurricanes' in points with 33 goals, 67 points 176 SOG and a +23 plus/minus through 81 games played.

Fast has undergone neck surgery and is not expected to play in the 2024-25 season.

Carolina was hit with some unfortunate off-season news after forward Jesper Fast was announced out for the entire 2024-25 season after undergoing neck surgery last week. The 32-year-old right-winger was entering his fifth season in Carolina and had six goals and 19 points in 73 games played while occupying Carolina's bottom six in 2023-24.

Carolina has signed Joakim Ryan to a one-year, two-way contract.

Ryan was a seventh-round pick back in 2012 and spent seven seasons in the AHL/NHL after turning pro following his senior season at Cornell University. Since 2022, Ryan has been in Sweden playing for Malmo (SHL), where he combined for 17 goals and 47 assists (64 points) in 156 games. Ryan returns to the Hurricanes' organization, where he played four NHL gamers in 2021.
