An injured Brent Burns (upper body) continued to skate on his own. The forward took the ice by himself for approximately 20 minutes before the Sharks went on for practice wearing a helmet but no pads.

The details on Burns’ injury are still vague, but according to general manager Doug Wilson, he is not expected to be out long term.

Oilers GM Craig MacTavish says Taylor Hall is expected to be out four weeks due to his injured left knee.

This is a terrible break for the Oilers who's lineup has been depleted by injuries all month. Coming into the season Hall looked poised for another great season, but concerns about injury always loom near with the 21-year-old. Expect Nail Yakupov to take on an expanded role as he looks to fill in for Hall and get back into coach Dallas Eakins good graces.

Brent Burns is out tonight after taking a hit to the mouth in Saturday's game. He could be back by Thursday vs. Boston.

Burns has been off to a hot-start scoring four goals and four assists in eight games. On Yahoo he is still D eligible giving him great value when he is playing on Joe Thornton's right wing. Freddie Hamilton will replace Burns on the top-line.

The New York Rangers and center Derek Stepan have reached an agreement on a two-year contract. Terms were not disclosed, but reports indicate it pays Stepan $6.15 million.

Stepan, who was a restricted free agent, had been sitting out training camp as contract negotiations with the Rangers were ongoing. He led the Rangers in scoring last season with 26 assists, 44 points and a plus-25 rating in 48 games. Stepan, 23, has not missed a game in three seasons with the Rangers. He has 140 points on 56 goals and 84 assists in 212 games.
