Frederick Andersen temporarily occupied the starter's crease at the Hurricanes' morning skate on Monday, indicating he is nearing a return, but Martin tend the twine for the second straight contest. Martin has been excellent in two games with the Hurricanes, notably on Saturday when he saved 29 of 30 shots (.967 SV%) in a 3-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. The 34-year-old has struggled in the AHL this season, with his 7-7-2 record, 3.47 GAA and .888 SV%. He last appeared in the NHL with Pittsburgh in 2022-23 and had a 1-2-0 record with a .897 SV%.

His start on Friday opens up the door for Spencer Martin to make his second appearance as a Hurricane when the team travels to Vegas on Saturday, though there is the outside chance the team opts to go to Kochetkov on back-to-back nights.

Andersen was diagnosed with deep-vein thrombosis and subsequent pulmonary embolisms in November. On Thursday, he returned to practice at full capacity for the first time since his diagnosis. Anderson has a 2.87 GAA and .894 SV% in six games this season (4-1-0), and at the very least, he will likely return to a timeshare between the pipes.

Kochetkov will start for the fourth straight game as the Hurricanes attempt to extend their winning streak to three on Tuesday night. Kochetkov is coming off his best performance of the season, a 34-save shutout in a 1-0 overtime victory against the New Jersey Devils. The Hurricanes are slight +103 road underdogs against a Dallas Stars club that has won five of their last six contests (5-1-0).

Svechnikov appeared almost ready to return Thursday as he was originally a game-time decision with his upper-body injury but was ruled out, pushing his potential return to Saturday as the forward himself has exclaimed: "I'm ready". The 23-year-old last appeared for the Hurricanes on January 19th and has an impressive 30 points (11G/19A) in 29 games played so far in 2023-24.

Kochetkov will start on Thursday vs. Colorado.

Kochetkov returned from a nearly month-long absence in a 16-save (.842 SV%) loss to Vancouver in his previous start and will take the crease again Thursday in a tough showdown vs. Colorado. The 24-year-old has struggled since being called upon full-time in Frederik Anderson's absence, with his 11-8-3 record, 2.60 GAA and .898 SV%. He takes on the Colorado Avalanche Thursday, who lost both of their back-to-back matchups in their return from the All-Star break but are still 2nd in the NHL in goals per game (3.76).

Kochetkov has missed the last seven games with a concussion but will return to the crease on Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks. The 24-year-old Kochetkov was playing tremendously in the games leading up to his injury, allowing two or fewer goals in four straight (4-0-0), posting a dazzling .936 SV%. The Hurricanes, riding a three-game winning streak, are -141 home favourites against the Vancouver Canucks, who lead the Pacific Division and have points in 11 straight (9-0-2).
