The Panthers have signed Michael Matheson to an eight-year deal worth $39M ($4.875M AAV).

Matheson, 23, was the No.23 pick in 2012 and has become a big part of the Panthers’ blueline, averaging over 21 minutes per game last year and through the first two games of this season. He has some offensive ability to his game and should be able to top his 17 points (7G / 10A) from last season.

Anderson is not expected to be in the Blue Jackets’ opening night lineup.

Anderson missed training camp due to a contract dispute, but signed a three-year deal on Tuesday. Despite inking a new contract, head coach John Tortorella said that Anderson is out on Friday. Anderson will likely need a few practice sessions to get back into the swing of things, but don’t expect the power-forward to sit out for too many contests.

Josh Anderson
The Blue Jackets signed Josh Anderson to a three-year contract worth $5.55M ($1.85M AAV).

Anderson held out of training camp as an unsigned RFA, but gets a contract one-day before the start of the NHL season. The 23-year-old is coming off of 17-goal, 12-assist season and will look to carve out a larger role this season. Missing training camp will put Anderson behind the 8-ball and likely force him to start the season in the bottom-6.

The Golden Knights select Nick Suzuki with the No.13 overall pick.

Suzuki excels as a playmaker, but he also showed off some goal scoring ability in 2016-17, scoring 45 goals to go along with 51 assists (96 points) in 65 games with the Owen Sound Attack. Suzuki is a smart centre who makes those around him play better.

Anderson (concussion protocol) is expected to play on Thursday.

Anderson missed the third period vs. the Red Wings after being hit by Brendan Smith and did not return. Despite being in concussion protocol, it looks like Anderson will be in the lineup on Thursday. Anderson has 10 goals and nine assists (19 points) in 51 games this season.

Josh Anderson
Anderson (undisclosed) left Tuesday’s game and did not return.

Anderson was forced from Tuesday’s game after being hit by Red Wings’ defenseman Brendan Smith. The Blue Jackets felt that the hit was questionable, but it went unpenalized. Monitor Anderson’s status prior to Thursday’s game vs. the Canucks. Expect Markus Hannikainen to replace him if he can't go.

Laine (concussion) was a full participant on Sunday; will not play on Monday.

Laine has missed the last seven games with a concussion, but took part in Sunday’s practice and is nearing a return. Head coach Paul Maurice said that Laine won’t play on Monday but could be a possibility for Tuesday’s game vs. San Jose. The Jets have went 3-3-1 while averaging 3.43 goals per game without Laine.

Laine (concussion) resumed skating on Wednesday; remains without a timetable for his return.

Laine will miss his sixth consecutive game on Wednesday, but he skated this morning for the first time since suffering a concussion on January 7th. Head coach Paul Maurice said Laine remains without a timetable for his return, but monitor his status heading into Saturday’s game vs. the Blues.
