Igor Shesterkin was the first goalie off the ice at Rangers' morning skate.

Shesterkin appears to be the likely starter for the Rangers on Monday as they face off in Winnipeg against the Jets (-120 road favourites). The 2021-22 Vezina trophy winner has been very pedestrian between the pipes to start the 2023-24 campaign, recording a 2.70 GAA and .900 SV% through six games (4-2-0). As long as he continues to garner wins, the Rangers won't be too particular about the finer details of his game but expect Shesterkin to elevate his game nearer to his career average of 2.39 GAA and .923 SV%.

Erik Brannstrom (concussion) will be out indefinitely.

Brannstrom's injury comes with news that fellow defenseman Thomas Chabot will be out 4-6 weeks due to a fractured hand, seriously draining the Senators' defensive core. In seven games this season, Brannstrom has zero points, nine shots, four penalty minutes, and a +1 plus/minus rating. Expect the Senators to make a call-up for their depleted blue line.

Quick will start in Edmonton on Thursday.

Quick gets a somewhat surprising nod on Thursday given starter Igor Shesterkin is coming off one of his best starts of the season on Tuesday against the Flames. Quick has just one start and two appearances to his name on the year but has performed well when called upon. His last start came on Saturday against the Kraken where he stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced enroute to a 4-1 victory.

Jonathan Quick
Shesterkin will start Tuesday's game in Calgary.

Shesterkin will return to the starter's crease on Tuesday after making way for Rangers' backup goalie Jonathan Quick to make his first start of the season on Saturday, a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken. In four games this season, Shesterkin has struggled to find his Vezina-caliber form, posting a 3.14 GAA and .879 SV%. Shesterkin, who has never posted a sub- .916 SV% in any of his previous four NHL seasons, will look to get back on track Tuesday against a Calgary Flames team that has lost four of their last five (1-2-1).

Chad Ruhwedel will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday vs. Dallas.

Ruhwedel failed to pick up a point or shot in any of his first five games played while averaging just 11:48 TOI and will be the odd man out of the Penguins' lineup Tuesday vs. Dallas. The 33-year-old defenseman is being replaced by John Ludvig, who will be making his NHL debut. When Ruhwedel does return to the Pittsburgh lineup he will be looking to improve on his -3 plus/minus.

Jonathan Quick will start Saturday vs. Seattle.

Quick has only appeared in one game for the Rangers this season and stopped all nine of nine shots against in a relief appearance vs. Nashville. The 37-year-old is in his 17th NHL season and has a 375-277-84 career record with a .911 SV% and a 2.47 GAA. He will face the Seattle Kraken Saturday, who snapped a four-game losing skid with a victory last game but are struggling to score ranking 28th in the NHL in goals for per game (2.0).

Shesterkin will start Thursday's game against the Predators.

Shesterkin is coming off a season-high 26-save, 2-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes and will look to record consecutive victories for the first time this season. Shesterkin has started all three contests for the Rangers thus far and should continue to see the lion's share of action going forward. Shesterkin looks poised for a strong performance tonight as the Rangers are -182 home favourites against a Nashville Predators team that has struggled out of the gate, being outscored 14-9 in their first four games of the season (1-3-0).

Nick Bonino is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

In three games with the Rangers this season, Bonino is averaging 11:07 time-on-ice, the lowest total for the 15-year veteran since the 2010-11 season. He has zero points and eight blocks playing primarily as the fourth-line center. Bonino's status remains uncertain for the Rangers' Thursday night matchup against the Nashville Predators.

Carson Soucy (undisclosed) is taking warmups and expected to return to the Canucks' lineup vs. Philadelphia.

Soucy signed a three-year, $9.75 million contract ($3,250,000 AAV) with the Canucks in the offseason and has yet to make his Vancouver debut due to an undisclosed injury but will draw into the lineup Tuesday vs. Pittsburgh. The 29-year-old defensemen had three goals, 13 assists, 87 SOG, 68 PIMs and a +18 plus/minus in 78 games played with Seattle in 2022-23. He is expected to lineup on Vancouver's third pairing with Noah Juulsen.

Arthur Kaliyev has served his four-game suspension and is expected to make his debut vs. Winnipeg.

Kaliyev will make his season debut after serving a four-game suspension issued to him during the preseason for a knee infraction against Chase De Leo of the Anaheim Ducks. The skilled right-winger is expected to line up on the Kings' third line with Trevor Moore and Phillip Danault. Last season, Kaliyev scored a career-high 28 points (13G / 15A) in 56 games while averaging only 11:41 time-on-ice.

Igor Shesterkin will start Monday vs. Arizona.

Shesterkin will make his third consecutive start to open the season for the Rangers on Monday night. The All-Star goaltender is coming off a forgettable performance on Saturday that saw him allow five goals on 21 shots in a 5-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Last season, Shesterkin allowed five goals only once and followed it up with a victory performance where he allowed only two goals. Shesterkin and the Rangers will be looking to rebound as they are massive -232 home favourites against an Arizona Coyotes team that has only played one game this season, a 4-3 shootout victory over the New Jersey Devils.

Shesterkin will start Saturday in Columbus.

Shesterkin was his typical dominant self in the Rangers' season opener, stopping 24 of 25 shots in the win in Buffalo. On Saturday he will face a Blue Jackets team that lost to the Flyers in their opener. Shesterkin was 2-0-0 while allowing just two goals on 50 shots (.960 SV%) in two games against Columbus last year.
