Malkin was cleared for contact yesterday and is on the ice this morning with his regular line with James Neal and Matt Cooke. He is also practicing on the power-play units so it looks like there is a chance that Malkin plays, but check back later to see if he will play for sure.

Malkin has been diagnosed with a concussion after sliding back-first into the boards on Friday. This is a big loss for those of you who have Malkin. It is very difficult to say when he will be back because concussion's are very unpredictable.
Malkin was injured early in the third period of the Penguins’ win over Florida on Friday. He did not finish the game after sliding into the end-zone boards. The back of his head appeared to bounce off the boards, and Malkin’s neck snapped back in a seeming whiplash motion. Star defenceman Erik Karlsson went down with a left Achilles injury when he was cut by a skate blade late in the second period in the Senators' 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. An achilles injury is really serious and Karlsson is going to miss the rest of the year.
This doesn't necessarily mean that they will be playing tonight however with this move it is very likely that at least Letang plays tonight. Monitor their status before game-time.
Coach Bylsma said that Letang will be a game-time decision, however there is a lot of optimism that he will be back in the Penguins lineup tonight. He will need to be activated off of IR if he is going to play.
Rakell will return to the Plymouth Whalers of the the OHL . Rakell will be a welcomed addition to the Whalers who are securely in the OHL playoff race.
In addition to Matt Niskanen being back at practice the Penguins best D-man Kris Letang was also back at practice today. Letang is eligible to come off of IR tomorrow and play in tomorrow's game vs. Ottawa. It all depends on how he felt today in practice. Monitor his status before tomorrow's game.
Letang will miss his third straight game tonight with an undisclosed injury. He was placed on injured reserve today but still isn't expected to be out long, but the move to IR allowed the Penguins to call up former first round pick Joe Morrow.
Letang has had a nice start to the season with 3 G and 6 A in the first 10 games of the season. He left practice yesterday and missed yesterday's game and will miss tomorrow's game as well. His status for Sunday's matchup with the Devils.
There is no solid news on Letang other than he left practice early. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma didn't say anything on the subject of Letang, so monitor his status prior to game-time.
There is still an injury risk here so beware if you planning to use him for your Playoff Pools.
Carter practicing on the top PP is a great sign. Look for the sniper to be ready on Game 1 despite the consistent obfuscation of head coach Darryl Sutter.

Don't expect Malkin to miss any playing time. The superstar center won the Art Ross with 109 points on the season.
